Picked up some rear suspension parts today which were away being powder coated, still a lot to do but it's a start.
Look much better in satin black as opposed to "flaky rust brown".
After doing that I dropped in past the bodyshop to see what was happening with the shell.
Rear quarters sorted after I had to smash out the deadlocks, I totally bashed in the passenger side, so I'm glad it looks normal again.
Some random photos of it being worked on.... Doors are of course off and will be done separately.

Is that the body shop down from Marshall trailers?
I seen you got your silver saph done there as I used to pass it going to work.
I guess it's a good bodyshop?

Haha yeah you're right, lots going on!
They are a good body shop, just take their time which is sometimes frustrating, but everywhere you go you'll always get someone that had a bad experience, so sometimes it's best not to get too caught up in all the hearsay.

Some updated pics, the last i'll post for a while.
The car is now solid, inner and outer sills have been welded on, the floor was in good condition otherwise, apart from a couple of the seat mounts needing attention and the louvers cut out and replaced with sheet metal, so there's no rot there now at all.
The pics below show areas which still need some work. The first phase of the resto was really just an exercise to identify where the rust was, and expose everything, before it's all tidied up.
Looks like someone got carried away with the filler....
The rear doors will be repaired, the fronts are standard sierra items, but don't seem nearly as bad as the rear. Fronts haven't been buffed down yet, but if there's rot it's easier just to get replacements, but they look ok so far.
Rusty strut
Now non rusty...

It's coming on, perhaps doesn't look great at the moment but I guess it's progress all the same. Next time I see it I'm hoping all the rust is completely gone, then it's time to worry about paint. Most if not all of it will have to be brought back to bare metal because of the poor condition it's in, and with the amount of filler previously used to smooth off the metal work it will take a lot longer than usual to do.
The front wings look good but when the metal was exposed it was glaringly obvious it hadn't been finished very well and they'd used wads of filler to smooth it off instead of running better welds and grinding it off in the first place. It's actually quite nice to see how they made the wings though, it appears to be saph top and bottom parts on the wing, with the middle chopped out and an escos flared section welded in between from what we can work out.

Thanks, I was a bit dubious at first about it but you're right, it would be near impossible to have a good finish without being slightly generous with the filler, it's not like they are factory panels, and things have moved on a lot since it was built, but I'm by no means a bodywork expert.... I wish I was as it would be a lot cheaper!

Great progress Rog, i actually like the car/project especially after seeing the feature pics, it will get there slowly nothing a bit of fresh metal and a mig cant fix!
Once i get my Escos home end of month i will do a resto also
One thing, i would have your drive flange face machined flat to rid the powder coating on the face

Personally I like the small stickers, I might put some back on but don't want to lie, so might have to source a better engine for it......
Anyone is welcome to come and have a look at it, just pm me and come with me next time I go and see it (not sure when that will be exactly) since I'm not in the uk at the moment, but will be back on 12th March.
Colour will be done the same, I really like it, did toy with black for a couple of weeks but changed my mind. It will be getting different wheels , just need to order them once I confirm what size I can get away with.
Cheers for the tip Bob, they weren't actually supposed to paint that bit lol, I also have to get the paint out before pressing in the new bearings in the trailing arms as well....still better than rusty ones I suppose! Can't wait to see your escos, sounds like a nice car!

Thanks for the comments, always nice to get some encouragement!
Here are some photos I woke up to this morning that were sent to me, things are progressing bit by bit, looks like they've probably had to use a chisel to get all that filler off!
You can also see what I mentioned earlier regards the front wings, the welds are very messy so all that will be sorted out too.
I have access to set of Rondells just now, but thanks anyway, will be in touch if things change but at the moment i'll likely be putting on TH2's or some kind of comp wheel, not any kind of MO though as I've never really been a big fan of them.
