Stunning Mondeo!!!!

I'm now on my 4th (1 MK2 & 3 MK3's). They have their faults, but I still love em'.

Silver or Anthractite look stunning. It's just black and white wheels not my thing.

I think I would want to scallop the battery clamp to allow a bit more room around the terminals, last thing you want is a dead short across the battery clamps, it doesn't leave a lot of room for error.

There's two. One at the gear box and the bigger one at the rear.

You're not wrong, they went straight in the bin after measuring and spring testing. The top extension detail is simply welded onto a generic spax damper. The seals are gone and they are non serviceable.
Already specced out the new ones, 25 point adjustment for bump and rebound with valving to compliment the fronts and the car. Adjustable ride height with correct length springs that will compress instead of bend. Of course the springs will be......... You guessed it. PURPLE!!!!

The shock's chassis mounting looks a bit thin too? Almost looks like it's bent?

Sorry, just seen you've already written it is bent.

Why are they so long? I take it the top mounting area couldn't be lowered?

What top mounts are you going to use? As the things on it were pure dung. Plus the actual shell mounts themselves are bent to buggery.

Personally I think that needs address before anything is bought/decided on 100%

Awesome progress so far love what you are doing to this. Top shock mounting looks properly mickey mouse, I'd have it all cut out and re-done if it was mine.

If it were mine I'd be beefing up the existing one. A reinforcing plate and a bit more gusseting would do the trick I would have thought. Then a simple fixed mount detail with new bushes and washers would work.
Let me know your plans as I'm starting the build tomorrow. I'll leave the rods alone til you've made your mind up. I'm jumping the queue for Mark so don't dilly dally as I'll have to crack on with other stuff

Specced so that you can use standard fitment Sierra shocks in it.

I can make the top mount a spherical bearing just like the bottom one. It'll make the ride a bit harsher and noisier though. Let me know ASAP please. I've just text a Mark telling him you are concerned. I'll crack on with the bodies and internals but I'll need to be sorting the rods by Friday.
It's a bit of overkill on a road car mate.

I have group A bilsteins in my Sapphire and Mark has them in both his Escort and Sapphire, they all run the proper 909 mounts with spherical bearings and they are fine for our noisy shitters

Will your top mounts just be screwed on as per the 909 ones?

I'm sure they are fine pal. There's nothing wrong with running what you are running it sounds an amazing set up and what Mark has in place nowis fine, it just needs beefing up.
The detail on the top mount will be; as the rod gets close to the spring top cup, it will have a thread cut into it. This will allow a screwed on fitting to hold the spring top cup. This will be fixed position allowing adjustment of the ride height via the body of the damper. The extension tube will then slide over the top of the rod giving the required spacing before further detail allows the fitment of a load spreading washer and uprated bush. On the top another uprated bush and load spread washer will clamp down.
