Default SmokeEm's P100 - It's arrived!!!

Well guys - It's finally here. It has been worth the wait for me.

I am hoping that this will turn into some sort of 'Build' thread but unlike my Cortina, this one is kind of already built (Albeit, been off the road for 4-8 yrs - owner can't remember!)

Here is the only picture so far

Name: truckhome.jpg
Views: 196
Size: 52.5 KB

She is an 89, P100 fitted with a 2.9efi 12v Cologne from a 1990 Granada with 4sp auto (Deffo staying!). Rear axle is 1980 3.0 Capri 3.09:1 Atlas, I believe. Front struts are from an unknown early Sierra. Truck also fitted with Sierra power steering. As the car has been SORN'd for so long, it needs full re-commisioning including overhauling the brakes and anything else that needs doing for MOT. Luckily, it has been stored in a warm, dry barn so apart from bird droppings on the bed cover, she is very clean considering.

Now, if any of you followed my build thread on various sites for my Cortina, I paid for everything to be done for me. This time however, I will be a bit more involved. My neighbour is a dab hand with mechanics etc and has owned various cars over the 5yrs I've known him (Skyline, 540i, S4, 89 Saph Cossie etc etc) - He has agreed to do the work for me in his spare time but I will assist where necessary. We have pretty much all tools required but I personally lack knowledge on what is a modern car for me

So - The plans (In no particular order)

Lose the spoiler
Overhaul/Upgrade? Front brakes
Overhaul rear brakes
Change seats to Raven Leather (Already own)
Change front struts to Coil-overs (For wheel clearance)
Change wheels - TSW Cylix are awful!!
Fit Central locking
Poss fit electric windows
Change steering wheel to 4 spoke RS (Already own)
Fit simple Hi-fi
Change front door cards as very tatty (On order)
Look into making the load cover lift/stay easier
Clean, clean, clean
Drive - Lots!

I would especially like advice on upgrading front discs with scrapyard items? And also I would like to know if I buy Gaz coil overs for the front, are they just bolt in? Also which poundage springs? 300? or more/less

All comments welcome as always!

Good to see she's arrived. Looks nice and clean.

I went for 300 after a lot of research and asking people that use gaz coilovers. Simple to fit.

As I said on Facebook swap to cossie hubs for better brake options.

No more pics as yet. Brakes are fine, just need a good going over. Will make it MINE over the coming months. Coil over fronts are first. Totally unplanned but i need them to fit decent wheels!

Do I need one then? Is there room with the V6 install? Where can I get a decent priced one as that is another unplanned expense

Well, we have started the stripdown.

Check out the dirt behind the plate! Thats what 8yrs in a barn gives you

Check out under the scuttle!!!

As expected, the pads were more than a little siezed so stripped

Name: WP_20140731_007.jpg
Views: 154
Size: 79.3 KB

As were the drums on the rear

Name: WP_20140731_006.jpg
Views: 171

Also cleaned off the bird crap - came up ok - but not good enough... So needs re-doing

Name: WP_20140731_008.jpg
Views: 185

It would seem that this truck is going to turn out cleaner than I origianlly planned so may look at getting this little dent pulled out

Going to start cleaning up all the dirt today!

Right o peeps, it is now 6.30pm on Sunday so we have managed a full day on it to get to where we are now. This is going to be quite some update!

Engine bay quick clean up..

Followed by complete overhaul of strut, under arch, discs, pads, TCA's and calipers etc...

Size: 95.0 KB

Then we fitted a super thick anti roll bar and removed the spacers from the old one (Not sure why they were fitted?)

Name: WP_20140802_007.jpg
Views: 192
Size: 101.2 KB

Then got a little pissed off that neighbours tree decided to shed its flowers into my freshly cleaned scuttle area!

Name: WP_20140802_008.jpg
Views: 154
Size: 124.5 KB

Started on the rear

Name: WP_20140802_009.jpg

Then whilst bored for 5 mins this morning, my neighbour thought he would strip the interior out!

Name: WP_20140803_002.jpg
Views: 151
Size: 98.2 KB

He carried on sorting the brakes etc, so I decided to install the front component speakers

Rockford fosgate jobbies

Then I remembered I am installing central locking so came to the conclusion that feeding through the wires along with the new speaker wire was a great idea. - 20mins later, I was in spaghetti hell!!!

Name: WP_20140803_004.jpg
Views: 160

Not a problem to most - But I am colour blind so this was my worst nightmare!

Crimped some nice terminals

Name: WP_20140803_001.jpg

Used some of this to add anti-vibration insulation to the door

Size: 89.7 KB

Name: WP_20140803_005.jpg

Fitted the tweeters into surface mount angle pods

The crossovers

Name: WP_20140803_008.jpg
Views: 151

Original plan was to hide them behind kick panels but too big! - Plan B - Make them a feature!

Name: WP_20140803_009.jpg
Views: 201
Size: 103.0 KB

By now it was HOT HOT HOT so I left next door painting drums and converted my home office desk into a work area

Name: WP_20140803_011.jpg
Views: 155
Size: 85.1 KB

Mounted them and installed some wiring though little holes so can be hidden

Name: WP_20140803_012.jpg

Door speaker mounted

Name: WP_20140803_010.jpg

Desk re-instated as per Mrs orders

So there we have it - It's almost 7pm now and dinner time - will take photos of rear end etc shortly so you can see how much has been done.

Yeah, 3.0 Capri Atlas. It already has spacers on too! Trying to decide what wheels to fit as the lattice are just to gain an MOT. Not sure what I will buy yet but they will be 16 or 17" and at least 9" wide on the rear.

And finally, the new mesh grill - looks a whole lot better IMHO (Grill and plastic wrap around trim was respayed and laquered) New number plates too!

lol, I know what you mean but I quite like the clean look. Might put a subtle RS badge or V6 on the grill somewhere. We shall see

Finished off the front speaker install last night. Typically, I broke one of the x-over covers! Oh well.

Russell got roung to mounting the rear number plate, plate lights & camera last night. Didn't get pictures as it was dark but suffice to say, I was astounded at the picture quality on the rear camera considering it was only £25 from ebay!

This is the bit about build threads I don't like lol - Sounds like 10 minute's work but it was actually about 9 hrs work over 2 evenings as Russell had to fabricate a new steel mounting, rewire the lights, make a loom for the camera etc etc.

We are hoping to do a full day Saturday as that is the only day we have free this weekend. I need to install the amp & subwoofer ideally as we need to find out what needs removing from the drivers seat to make it fit a P100 (The height adjustment part I believe) Also I want to fit my NEWLY RECOVERED 4 spoke RS steering wheel!

Cars, they keep you in the garage working on the damn thing

Keep it up and about the badge if you like it without, than that's the way to go.
