Thanks mate, the engine is the original to the car, just a 205 block.
I kind of forgot I had this sat in my workshop
It's a 200 block engine just minus turbo, came out of a p100 I broke which belonged to a mate of mine. He had it rebuilt, it's been wire rung apparently. So I will pull the engine out of my car and sell it for rebuild. The engines already half mine just gotta pay my mate off for his half of it.

Just read through it all you did some superb repairs to that rusty shell what a good looking car after all the effort - excellent work.
Shame about the engine going bang but with time on your side you can get it sorted next year get a good strong engine in there.

Well it's update time for the saph. Since it went bang I didn't want to go near the car. I left it sat on my drive with a flat battery.
Ive learnt that the only way to properly repair a rusty roof is to fit a new one. The car has pissed in water over the winer, rear footwells soaked and all my leather had gone mouldy. I spotted this after about 2 moths of being sat. Opened the car up, looked at the amount of water and mould everywhere and just locked it back up and walked away. It pissed me off so much I just didn't want to touch it.
Last month I ran out of space at home so had to push the Saph into the garage. She's dried out really well which is good.
So this week I took my 200 block engine to bits, not great news there.
Pistons seemed to move a for bit in the bores and a few marks on the crank. So I stripped it down fully and took it over to ht Howard in Slough for them to have a look at what it needs.
Got a call from them today, a new set of rings may take up the play in the Pistons but ideally needs a rebore, crank is ok but ideally needs a grind and the flywheel need to be refaced.
So ive given the go ahead for 4 new oversized Pistons, all new rings etc, a rebore, crank grind and shells.
The bill is going to hurt, but i want it to last and I want it to be reliable because I drive like a cunt lol.
Engine comes out of the Saph this weekend, watch this space.

Pushed the saph back so I could get some access round the front
Me and a mate set about stripping everything out
Took the head off to make it a bit easier to get the engine out
And on the floor
Soon as the bottom end is back I will get it built up over at work and get it dropped in the bay.
Not in a mega rush but Id like it back on the road in March so I can begin running it in.
Going to be a shit 1000 or so miles with no boost!!

Well the new engine is in, it's been a fucking nightmare and caused me issues all the way along, finally got it sorted this morning, drove it for mot which it flew through.
Got back to the workshop and its knocking!! Further investigation has revealed it's the flywheel that's come loose, so we're just about to get the box ripped out now. Off to burtons first thing to get some new bolts if I can't find any tonight, and fingers crossed all back together ready for ace cafe tomorrow evening!!

Either an oil pressure issue or something to do with the machining tolerances, but it's worn the back of the shells not the crank surface. Il get the engine sorted and put the running gear into something else I think. I need a fresh start with a fresh car.

You have got the car looking top drawer now, shame to break it up when it's at this stage and it's a faulty oil pump or similar to blame,if there's something you can't see wrong with the engine and you rebuild it and fit it into something else you will only move the problem.
Stick with the saph,I have been like yourself twice and broken cars just after I have finished them, you only end up back at square 1 next time doing it all again!
Good luck whatever you decide to do,but don't chop it up!

Just read from the start, great to see someone saving an old Sierra instead of running away from a bit of welding!
It's a shame it has got you down now though, at least if you did break it the shell will be used so it will still live on.
Regarding the leaking roof from the welding repairs... I always put some bridging filler over welds to plug any pin holes and it's never let me down yet.
Do you have threads for the other cars?

Cheers mate, I think I just need a fresh start now, and what I really want is a useable 3dr so that's the route im looking down.
I think the roof leak is more to do with the sunroof fitment, ive put some clear silicone around the sunroof and it doesn't leak now.
Ive got a few other threads on here, my mk1 escort, my mates mk2 I did as well.
