Project Black Sapphire
Well, seeing as she needs a full resto, I thought I should get a thread up!!!
So, It all began last April, after 24 years (bearing in mind I'm 29 next month) of wanting a Cosworth of some form or another (my ultimate being a Pacifica EsCos), I bought myself a 1992 Ebony Black 4x4 Sapphire.
Here she is, minutes after purchase:
This was just before a wallet crunching £82 V-Power fill up for the 180+ mile journey from the Midlands back home to the South. Taking it cautiously at first, getting used to the car and gaining that sixth sense every Cosworth owner acquires, the "what was that" sense.
Happy that She was running as should, it was time for some fun and considering the previous "Quick" car I had owned was an Escort GTi, with a 2L Mondeo engine, the rest of the journey was some serious FUN!!!
Safely back DAAN SAAF, it was time to give her a good look over and start putting my own mark on her.
She was in a mildly modified state at the time of purchase, spec was:
Standard 200 Block,
Standard Turbo,
Standard Injectors,
Airtec 500 Cooler, Turbo cooler and Radiator,
Air Filter and 3" bore Exhaust,
Dodgy 90's Chip,
Gaz Coilovers,
17" Revolutions,
Carbon Fibre Rouse Splitter, Spoiler and roof strips.
First things to go were the yellow dice tyre valves, wind deflectors and blue interior L.E.D's. Making way for my first additions, new white dials, new mats with the Cosowrth logo and white interior L.E.D.s.
Then it was time to give here a nice clean and polish ready for her first outing at a local car show:
Note the "Quick" GTi next to the Cossie.
Having a mate with a lightly modified Astra VXR and another with a Honda Prelude running a K20 Supercharged engine, life was fast and fun. in anticipation of us getting these cars a plan had been hatched for a road-trip around Europe. So the Cossie was set for some upgrades to keep her competitive, yet also reliable. I planned on running a 330BHP spec with MSD wasted spark and even got as far as purchasing a T34.48 Turbo, Green 803 Injectors and an MSD Chip. In the search for reliability a full gasket set was also purchased.
Then, Disaster...
On the night before I was due to take the Cossie off the road for a freshen up, whilst encouraging the Missus to have a play, all guages showing no potential issue... Bang. Looking out the back window, all that could be seen in the clear night sky was a thick trail of grey smoke. Having managed to coast off to a lay by a swift call to the RAC was made.
More pics to follow....

Thanks for the nice comments, unfortunately Glenn as will be seen when I get some more pics uploaded, it is a little rustier underneath than I would like, however I have decided to save her and head for a big spec. The only thing that I am thinking which is a little controversial, is I might go for Panther Black when respraying, not sure if I will upset the purists though??

Nice looking car, if you're not gonna keep it standard I wouldn't worry about the shade of black either. It is, after all, your car
