Default My Series 1 thread (tidy up begins)

Hi Guys,

So I managed to stumble across a series1 that was for sale and have managed after a bit of persuasion to buy it!

Now it wasn't the cheapest, isn't the tidiest and needs work but it has all the potential there to be a nice car.

The bodywork has had work obviously! It's 30 years old but it's in great condition.

There are a couple of marks and bits to do, I'll list them and attach some pictures later.

Spec,

Rebuilt 1.6 CVH EFI running Cosworth management with pectel board and green injectors

Standard looks apart from shocking bonnet raisers.

A few other little bits but mostly standard.

So list of things to do.

Update torn gearbox mounts so I can have a bonnet that doesn't have a dent in it lol (already ordered!)
Remove bonnet raisers!
Fit number plate
Sort next to none braking system, I'll be fitting my escos front brakes and refurbishing the back until a disk set comes up.
Locate a breather! And then fit it.
Find a better bigger intercooler than the current airtec and then fit it.
Replace cracked back light
Repair dash
Fit ford stereo
Send of for mapping and judge it, then maybe start looking for zetec bits.

A bit if me wanted to put it back to standard but that's just boring.

Anyway I'll update as regular as poss.

So done a few bits to the car over the weekend but not much.

Following parts have arrived.

Vibratecnic engine mounts
Bailey breather
Rear light
Standard clocks
Standard steering wheel
Front Cossie brake bits

So first was to set about sorting the dash out, petrol gauge didn't work, rev counter didn't work etc.

Pic of before.

Then I stripped them down and made 1 good set out of the two, excuse the scratches, the flash went off.

Then it was time to tackle the brakes.

Had a leaking rear wheel cylinder and the fronts were standard, it has S2 rear drums on it already so will stick with these until a decent rear disk conversion comes up.

I also found a split pipe, Jano kindly lent me his pipe flaring kit!

After a shit load of bleeding I finally got a bit if a pedal but still a bit spongy, only done about 1 mile bedding in though so might get better.

Later today I am picking up my GRS cooler and then at some point on the next week me and Jano will be fitting cooler, breather, fans etc.

Then it's ready for mapping!

Fitted rear light and numberplate too but have no pictures yet

Here's a picture of paintwork needed on front, will be going in for this after mapping.

When they come up for sale they are pricy.

Complete rotbox in need of full resto 5k on eBay. Nice ones needing no work seem to be 8k upwards.

This one was somewhere in the middle...

Dropped off to OKC to get Modified GRS fitted with twin kenlowe fans and bailey breather.

And a few other bits sorted before mapping.

It has also been discovered it's an 1800 block and not exactly standard as preciously thought but without stripping there is no way to conclusively know, it's a sweet engine though that's for sure!

Anyway Here's a picture of previous intercooler fitted... Oh my! Lol

Nice project. And respect for buying a car for that much that needs work doing to it. On the plus side it sounds like there's no rot. That intercooler!!!!!!!!

Car is back in the garage now and was awesome whilst mapping until the clutch went...

Helix 6 paddle and updated cover now on order.

Then back to finalise mapping, also considering a T34 but it's going pretty well as it is and sounds awesome!

I'll update with some proper pictures ASAP.

Spec is considerably more than what was first thought. Will try and update spec etc when I get a proper list of what's in it!

Solid lifters and updated EFI head/cam were a nice surprise!
