Default S2 rs turbo mercury grey (G186vhv)

I thought I'd show you's all some of the little jobs that I've been doing to my rs turbo over the winter months.

I've got a thread on Northern fords which is my local club with covers the north of Scotland.

I purchased the car in August 2013 it's my first ford but I've always wanted one since I was old enough to know what one was. As far as im aware the car was fully restored around 2008 and has done very few miles since, only around 1500 miles it's had full engine re-build with new pistons 0.5 over bore, hybrid turbo, turbo systems chip, airtec alloy rad, intercooler and turbo cooler. Avo suspension, fully poly bushed, rear disc conversion.

Hope you all enjoy the pics.
I've copied most of it over from northern fords

when I had the "turbo" out a run I noticed smoke coming out my bonnet vents when I stopped at a junction. I immediately thought s*#t

I pulled over straight away opened the bonnet and was greeted with a big waft of smoke which smelt of burning oil. I had a look around the engine bay but nothing was obvious

I then looked under the car a there it was! Oil dripping off the bottom of the starter motor and on to my nicely heat wrapped exhaust which was acting like a sponge nicely and soaking up the oil and burning it off. It was the turbo oil return pipe!

I ordered a new samco one and fitted it today.

Removed oil hose and the cause of the leak was obvious straight away hose was a coolant pipe which was too big in diameter. The jubilee clip on the block side was also fitted of the end of the hose and had split it.

Here you can see the difference between the oil hose and new hose and wen fitted, the oil hose was almost kinked to get the correct angle you can see on the new hose.

New hose fitted with new clips, looks a lot better and matches the rest of my hoses now

I had also ordered a heat shield from Auto Specialists, it's from their pro-series range in satin black which is more subtle than the usual chrome finish.

For some reason my oil feed to my turbo is different to the standard fitting which means the heat shield can't be fitted where it should be unless I cut a check out the shield which I don't fancy doing. But the position that it's bolted in will keep rain water from going onto my alternator which is fine by me.

I also have a wee sticker that I friend got made for me. He's from Skye. But some of you may remember these from a while back where available at the esso garage.

Next up was my zinc anti-roll bar clamps, the bolts are stitched and the top of the plate they are bolted too to stop the turning when fitting the clamps. But one of the bolts had broke the welds in the past and a new bolt had been fitted but not stitched, and you cant get a spanner on the top of the bolt so it's no use.

So I un bolted the whole mounting plate and got it off that way. I decided the best option was to fit a new bolt and stitch it in place, which meant I could get my favourite tool in the garage on the go 8-)

My spal radiator fan was on the outside of my intercooler which I thought to myself can't be very efficient for cooling my radiator and also block clean air going through the intercooler, so I moved it. But now that I've moved it I'm not too sure if I like it. I might move it back yet! What's you opinions on the rad fans being on the intercooler? It's the way airtec tell you to do it, it's the fan comes with the intercooler kit.

Loving this, very good attention to detail totally makes it a better car than your 'average' resto.

Well that's the rs taxed and back on the road but after taking her a short drive to get some fuel the core plug on the dizzy side of the cylinder head has started leaking on closer inspection it's corrosion that's pitted it that's leaking there's also old water marks around the plug which I hadn't noticed before so could of been leaking a while and I've just noticed it tonight. Ordered new plug should be here for weekend then she will be singing again

Got my timing belt, water pump, 82deg thermostat and rotten core plug changed

I'm glad I chose to do the belt as it was perrished. The water pump was looking not to good either maybe the engine was run with no antifreeze for a while I don't know.

The rotten core plug was well shot

But now I'm safe in the knowledge that it's all done and she's ready for runs, shows.

Had a night cleaning, wash, dried, clayed, glazed, sealed then waxed with my new wax. All done by hand.

Looks really good and my new auto finesse temptation wax is a cracking wax gives real good depth of gloss and helps to hide my ripples along the drivers door. Ive Sussed that the more light the ripples reflect the less obvious they are.
