Getting back into the Ford scene and thought id post a pic of my latest. Looks to be in decent shape for an early one so looking forward to getting her back into shape with a bit of effort....

so you won it.

I offered him 2k out of auction and he responded saying he wanted 2500 but would take an offer so i offered £2000 lol

I think he bidded it up towards the end.

Still good though, will be following this, looked a good one.

What are your plans

Probably true cossie, I offered him £2100 off ebay and he wasn't interested but not too disappointed yet! Dads picking it up Thursday so im hoping its not too rotten underneath. Body work looks clean and straight enough so i'll try and keep it as original as poss, bit of detailing in the engine bay and probably get the bonnet sprayed eventually. Im just happy to find an early one with low owners for kinda sensible money, albeit with 130k on the clock.....

good man.

as i said it looked a good car to me, but very hard to tell, strut tops i was a little worried about and i would be looking in boot straight away at floor.

hopefully it will be all good. I would have given him 2k as i say and im sure loads of others would have so i dont think you have done bad at all.

im looking forward to seeing the pics

Yes there seems to be a bit of corrosion around the struts on the pic. If it were that bad surely an MOT would mark as an advisory I would have hoped? You never know anyway but a bit of welding in future wouldn't be the end of the world tbh

I very nearly bought a mint low mile white one a couple of years back but couldn't bring myself to part with nearly 4k for a car I used to be able to pick up for £1500

thanks for the comments everyone, im very please so far and will post more pix when I have time. Does anyone know if I should have an additional plate with paint, engine code etc on as I cannot see one on the bulkhead by coolant bottle. I can only see a VIN plate on the front by the headlights. Can anyone help?

Checked the chassis number with docs and everything is as it should be, just cant find the paint code but pretty sure its nimbus grey....

Only a small amount of rust in the boot so jus a bit of welding needed to tidy up.....

The battery trays been bodged too and a cable tie used to secure the battery. Plan is to get a new try welded in to sort it out for good and tidy it up....

Hi mate, I've also just brought a 1985 xr2 from a guy who's family have owned it since new.
Needs a bit of work to the passenger sill panel and inner wing but other than that it's been dry stored for 15 years and has 68k on the clock. Any way here's a pic of mine, good luck with yours and hope to see your at one of the forth coming ford shows

Will be really nice with a bit of tlc.
These seem to be going for strong money at the moment, only 5 years ago I bet you could have picked that up for £800. I bought my mk2 Ghia for £300 7 years ago, cost me a bloody fortune since!

The value is definitely on the up quick and rightly so IMO, such an iconic car that seem to just disappear, such fun cars to drive, and now there's three being saved on here, happy days

Actually I was very lucky and managed to strike a deal with the guy and brought it for £800 . As I say the car does need some body work done but it drives without fault and has a current mot and tax till June this year .
Not many B reg XR2s left so I'm looking forward to restoring this one . I will post some more pictures soon of her condition and interior

love these. mates had a few of them back early 90;s, loved them. i almost bought a mint white one that was on ebay back in summer of 2007 iirc, had bigger weber carb, k&n, magnex manifold and full magnex exhaust, boy wanted 2200, had no rust i was outbid by £50. gutted. would of been worth double now. might buy one if i can find a good one for a decent price.

Saw it come on last night and knew it was a good price for the mileage and condition. It didn't stick around for long so expect a dealer to have it relished at £4k in the morning lol
