Xpack 280 Brookland Capri Project
Finally started my 280 xpack project.
I've been collecting genuine nos parts for this since early 1990 after seeing an E reg xpack 280 parked up in Southampton High St in the late 80's when I was at college and vowed then to own one, one day.
Here's a pic of my 3 280's together. I couldn't decide which one to do it too as they are all low mileage, but one had just started to show signs of rusting on the wing rails so that made my mind up as the wings needed to come off.
I've started stripping it to a bare shell and started sandblasting the engine bay ready for any welding repairs.
I'm really busy at work at the moment but hopefully going to get the wings off before xmas and the bay finished and then get it on the 360 spit to completely strip it back to bare metal to carry out any repairs before the body kit is trial fitted.

I haven't decided on engine spec yet, I was going to stick in a low mileage 24v lump but I didn't want to chop up anything in the engine bay or relocate the battery to the boot. As I like the factory look of things when the bonnet is open.
So I will either run the standard 12v v6 with either an efi turbo or efi throttle bodies, but I know the lump will end up being stroked.
The wheels I have already got which are 9x16" Compomotives split rims, but this may change as I may get Image wheels to make a one off set of deep dish RS 7 spokes.
Here's a pic of the Comps.

Finally got time to spend up my unit this weekend, but didn't get chance to work on the xpack as my D plate brooky needed a new starter and a rear wheel bearings sounded a bit noisy when she went for her last mot.
I Gave her a wash after I had finished, surprised how dirty they still get while in storage. She don't come up that bad considering I've never even waxed this one since I've owned it, she's 59k original paint and panels.
Think I had better invest in some more indoor covers as the other one needs a good clean too. I'll do that tomorrow as I will actually get time to work on the xpack.

I spent some time up the unit this weekend and nearly got the engine bay stripped. I'll be spending most evenings up there this coming week to get the wings off and prep the rest of the front end ready for paint.
She's in good condition, but I was surprised of the amount of rust that was hidden under the seam sealer. It looks like it traps moisture?!?
The bitchumen sound deadening on the bulkhead lived up to its name and was a right bitch to get off!
A few pics of how I left it tonight.
Can't wait to trial fit the kit.

If you need any panels, I have a large selection of genuine ford panels that I've collected over the years.
But if you did ever want to sell it, let me know as I would be interested.

Hello mate, I started with my sand blaster but it just makes so much mess and with the weather I usually wheel it outside but where its been raining for the last errrrrr 2 months I went back to some nitromors but to be honest that was a pain as you have to wash it down after.
So I went for a wire wheels and then detail sander and various grades, which was the better option.
I will use my sandblaster just to go back round all the seams and any bits of rust that is left.
What part of Southampton are you from?
Woodmill/Riverside Park here

In post #14 on this thread you can see my sandblaster and soda blaster in the left hand corner infront of the oven doors. If you've got a large compressor in your garage/workshop I could bring them around one weekend if you want to have a blast?
