Default fitting new auxiliary shaft bearing

hi to all am new on here hope i have posted in the right place!! hoping for some help with this problem am having!!!!!
any body had any experience with fitting an auxiliary shaft bearing on a ford pinto is there a special tool needed
i took the old one out got a new one off ebay came today set to and tried to fit it
it looked like one piece but there is a bit like a jig saw to make it hole but it split at this point
after a slight tap with a wooden hammer is it meant to split at this point or have i broke it
in fact it was as if it was to big to fit and at a tenner each i don't wont to brake another
so thought i would ask for advice on here any help thanks
