Default Mk2 XR2 project

Hello I'm new to this forum, I always wanted a mk2 Xr2. So I ended up buying one for £600. The body work is not bad but It's not rotten, only has a bit of rust on the drivers side rear wheel arch/sill. Apart from that It's fine. It was stored for about 8 years in someones garage, which in that time he took soo many parts off it. It was a non runner, but I put new spark plugs, distributor cap and ht leads on and got it started. The parts that I've found that are missing so far though are : Alternator and alternator bracket, heater matrix ( they've took it out and just connected the 2 pipes), heater box and blower, sunroof handle, the grab handles that go on the roof, rear washer bottle, rear speaker holders and the whole speaker/stereo wiring, the clock/light and wiring. And missing the front bumper. I'm guessing I will probably find a few more things missing. But hopefully soon have it back on the road.

Thankyou. I just love these cars! I did put a photo up but didn't work. I'll try again. Not the best photo as It's off Facebook, but all I have till I get home from work.

Yeah I'm sure I'll find them in the end. I just want to get all parts for it, waxoil it to protect it then respray it. I just want it to look original. The inside is a mess though. So first thing is to strip it out and clean it all up.

Thanks. Well I just want to get it looking original. Someone has lowered it so going to get it back to standard height. And just clean it up and try to find all the parts that are missing.

Yeah it is quite a good base to start. Just didn't want to get one that was rotten. And a few I've seen on eBay have gone for more money than I expected. And I'm taking the carpet out later to clean so got some more photos to put up then.

Started to clean my seats today. The only problem with them was the rear seats had fag burns in them as you can see in the photo. But I managed to get hold of a better condition one. But apart from that they are in good condition just filthy. I've only started cleaning but I'm really suprised at how good there coming out.

I've gave the seat on the left a good clean and can already see a difference. After giving it another good clean hopefully will look even better.

I finally got my heater box today with my heater blower. That I'm hoping to fit tomorrow. After a trip to the scrapyard to try get the pipes that connect to the vents and the wires seeing as someones cut all mine out!

And I'm hoping someone could help me out here on something. When I indicate the indicators slow down then stop. I've tried another stalk I bought but it still does the same. Anyone know why it could be doing this?

I've just been and got all this stuff from the scrapyard today off a 1.1 for £30. Which I thought was a really good price.

Because my car was overheating yesterday I put and new thermostat, water pump and cambelt on my Xr2. Plus I got this from the scrapyard which fitted on seeing as it didn't have one.

Name: IMAG0686.jpg
Views: 154
Size: 179.8 KB

I also put my new alternator on and the bracket I got off eBay.

Name: IMAG0687.jpg
Views: 144
Size: 67.3 KB

But when I went to go put the alternator belt on it was too small. Even though it was definitely for an Xr2 and it was pushed back as far as it could go. So I need to go tonight to get a slightly bigger belt. Does anyone know if there's more than one bracket for that engine as I'm thinking they could of sent me the wrong bracket. Plus the pipe that comes off the water pump is squashed on the alternator because I struggled a bit getting it over the alternator on to the pump. Just doesn't seem right.

The bracket is wrong. This is an Escort one for standig alternators. You need a different bracket (any Fiesta CVH)

np. You might want to take a look at this:

http://jimhearne.co.uk/zvh.htm#Alternator mounting

EDIT: You also need a different alternator.

Thankyou for the link. Now I know what to get. I'm quite annoyed someone off eBay sent me the wrong bracket even though I rang them to make sure it was defiantly for a Xr2.
