Thanks guys, I picked up some satin black hammerite today so going to do the calipers tomorrow if the rain holds off, got some smoked side repeaters on order too as the orange ones stick out like a sore thumb now!

Painted the calipers today in Hammerite satin black. Was pretty chuffed with the finish actually, was going to remove them to paint but as it's due to piss down this afternoon wanted to get on with it. Cleaned the wheels inside and out and sealed with gtechniq c5.

Also did the rear dust shields but forgot to get pics.

Default Painting the chrome on the rear emblem

Hi Rich,

I'm new to the forum and just seen your post from last year with regards to upgrading the look of your car (which looks beautiful by the way!) you painted the chrome of the rear blue oval badge and put a dmb overlay on top, now I have the overlay and I want to paint my chrome and I'm just wondering how exactly did you do it or was it a case of getting it done professionally?

Thanks in advance
Kevin

If you take the sticky foam tape off the back of the badge, then the badge does just unclip into 3 pieces!

Cheers, but getting off and separate isn't the problem, I need to know how to paint it, sand it down? What grit paper?, then primer, which one and how many coats, then paint? Then clear coat?
Thanks

Not too hard, they pop up on ebay every now and again and I got some bits new from a website called car accessories plus, which was the cheapest at the time!

No it's heated half leather, the factory sport models have exactly the same seats just with red stitching.

Well time for another update, not done much to the car really apart from driving it. Thought about adding some sounds, as although the standard system is pretty good, there is room for improvement. I have had a JL audio sub in the boot for a while but have upgraded the front components and started sound proofing. I have so far done the boot floor, bootlid inner and outer skins and the front door inner and outer skins.

I've fitted some Focal front components which sound fantastic, I plan on amping them up once I have deadened the whole car.

Anyway, few pics!

Boot floor ( I did do the gaps after the pics were taken)

The components

Also, a vid of the difference between an un-deadened door and a deadened one!

I will have another update tomorrow, spent the last few months working on a little project

Rich.

Had another busy day again today, removed the seats, carpets and other various trim panels to carry on the sound proofing. Managed to get about half of the floor done until I ran out - underestimated how much I will need!!!

Never before have I seen so many clips, hooks, bits of glue, seals, wiring plugs etc etc to undo just to get a few bits of trim out.

Anyway, started with laying down the deadening material, quite a nice job to do actually as long as you don't cut your finger off with the knife like I almost did lol.

Now, while this little lot was out, thought it would be rude not to crack out the wet vac!

Name: 20140911_103702.jpg

This came out the passenger's seat

So, seats vac'd, leather cleaned and protected with Auto Finesse's finest

Name: 20140911_120307.jpg
Views: 2643
Size: 74.6 KB

No pics of the carpet as I was really loosing the will to live by that point!!

And it all went back together. Not yet been out in the car to see the difference the deadening has made but hope it has made a big improvement like it did in the doors and boot.

Another update in a bit

Rich

Nice and thorough.

I'd hate to see the results of mine after a wet vac having to cart kids about in it.

So, this is something that I have been playing with for the last few months. Almost a year ago I purchased a set of second hand headlamps, so I could 'blackeye' them, was pretty pleased with the results. As standard, the car came with halogen bulbs behind a projector lens, which also has a system called AFS, which turn the lamp units side to side while turning the steering. It is quite a clever system that really does help driving through the lanes at night.

So, this is how the car looked with the blackeye headlamps fitted.

Name: 20140420_140301_RichtoneHDR.jpg
Views: 3832
Size: 57.0 KB

I fitted a HID kit to them which worked well behind a projector lens, but there was definitely no substitute for a proper HID projector lens.

I could have just slung in a set of HID xenon units from another Mondeo, but they don't have AFS for some reason, it is only the halogen units the have it. I wanted the best of both worlds, so got creative lol.

I purchased a pair of Morimoto H1 projector lenses from America and set about fitting them. It certainly wasn't easy and I couldn't fit them how they are designed to be fitted, due to the swivelling AFS feature.

These are the lenses I purchased,

Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the install (kicking myself for not taking any) but have now got them in and working with LED indictors, both with no Canbus errors.

And the beam output

I will get some more pics with the sun off them, struggling a bit with my camera.

I am currently running them off the standard headunit but yes, they are absolutely outstanding. So much clearer and the high notes from the tweeters seem a lot more defined. The standard speakers in a tinny door would shit themselves at the slightest hint of a low note, but I would definitely recommend these in a deadened door.

Letting my bank card cool off a bit, but next month I am going to shift these to the rear and put a pair of Focal 165KR's up front and will amp them up.

What do you do for a living then Paul?

Thanks Glenny. Bearing in mind I have done the boot floor, boot lid, rear section of the floor and front doors I would estimate probably 10kg. So by the time the whole car is done I would have thought 20kg in total. Which is only 1.2% of the total weight of the car.

Get yourself one of these too to roller it on, they are foam so help get the material round and into the nooks and crannies.

http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/decorat...skuId=13769285

Take the window regulator out and do as much of the outer door skin as you can, then when you do the inner skin you basically want to replace the damp membrane with this stuff. I used about 10-12 sheets to do each door.
Your door will now shut with a nice thud instead of a clang!
