escort gti turbo
well been a while but i bought another ford to play with, ex feature escort gti running a 1.8 zetec turbo, saturday got her home. no current pics but heres the feature from performance ford
few bits have changed from original feature, she now has quad headlight, gay smoked lexus lights that are going and sits a little lower but the rest is the same. came to me with a dead megasquirt ecu after previous owner shorted the batt out on the bonnet but was old v2.2 so may aswel upgrade to v3. spec from feature was:
1800cc Zetec Turbo
Twin Multi-Layer Steel Head Gaskets (WRC)
0.5mm Stainless Steel Spacer
~8.4:1 Compression Ratio
Modified Sump
area six zetec turbo cams
Piper Uprated Valve Springs
Focus RS Turbo Manifold
Garrett T25 Turbocharger
Focus RS Turbo Heat Shield
Stainless Steel Braided Oil Feed with Turbo Oil Filter
Custom exhaust system
Modified Breather Setup
Custom HUGE Pro Alloy Intercooler (80mm thick! This was the prototype for Pro Alloys design)
Custom pipe work by Pro Alloy
SPAL Radiator Fan
Modified Throttle Body
Bosch Group A Spec Fuel Pump
Bosch Prototype Cosworth Indy Car Fuel Injectors 400cc
Modified Zetec Fuel Rail
MegaSquirt v2.2 ECU, wired directly into original loom but retaining eec-iv connector for fallback
Mapped by myself and Ahmed Bayjoo
Innovate Motorsports LC-1 Wide Band Lambda Sensor (hooked directly into ECU)
Various new gaskets, seals, etc.
Transmission
Ford IB5 (Rebuilt)
RS Turbo Limited Slip Differential Unit
AP Racing Paddle Clutch
Suspension
Koni Adjustable Dampers
Jamex 40mm lowering springs
New Lower Arms
Brakes
Focus ST170 300mm Front Brakes
Standard Rear Setup
Wheels & Tyres
16" Mondeo Si 5 Spokes
Exterior
Completely standard
apart from custom bonnet with genuine Cosworth 4x4 vents and front mud guards
All resprayed around 18months ago, so no rust anywhere – totally mint!
Interior
Half Leather
RS2000 steering wheel
Electric wing mirror conversion
as said came to me with a dead ecu, also needs a few little bits of paint on some scratches, a power steering pipe and mot'ing. future plans are to get her back on the road before ford fair and rest of summer then maybe change some bits over the winter. pics up soon

thought id do an update. after getting her back on the road and upsetting a few cars in the area i ended up cracking piston number 2, oops. So rebuild time, after having some great advice from the great guys off here i bought a 2.0l silvertop zetec well after buying 2 duds i found a gem with no miles on it, then bought a aparent good set of focus rs pistons and rods off ebay only to wait two weeks for them and then when they finally turned up 2 were damaged so got to burtons and bought a new set to fit on the rods which were good, then got the usual arp rod bolts, new bearings, 1.4mm mls gasket new head bolts etc.... and me and my 4 year old built the lump up ready to drop in. The only bit i left my mate to do was time the engine up and he timed the cam 180deg out and stupid me didnt check so when it was all in turned over and bent 4 valves. So head off again, ordered a new headgasket, fitted my valve springs to my spare head and painted my cooler and pipework satin black and thats as far as i got so far. Should be up and running again next weekend then run it in, fit my gt28 turbo, tubular manifold and siemens 630cc injectors and time for mapping. thats the plan but do they rarely go the way you plan??

not much to update at the moment. but after building my spare head it still misfired on 1 and slighty on 2, took head off again and discovered the inlet valves on 1 and one of the inlet valves on 2 werent closing fully i took it all apart again changed the lifters on 1 and 2 but cant get the valves to close fully. i sent it off to a specialist and bought devil developments valve springs, another mls head gasket and bolts(thats 3 now) new lifters and also grabbed a amal valve to aid with boost control. i should hopefully have it back together soon to get it run in then fit my tubular manifold and find a turbo as my t28 wont be man enough for the power im hoping for. then she'll be off to karlos g for mapping

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Have a look at your pistons too, I was told that when the valves hit them it can cause the rings to get squashed, which will make the engine smoke.
(I had this on a escort zetec I bought with a snapped cambelt)
