PMSL.. she only bought it last year!!

Jobs that need to be done

Listed below are parts that need replacing or jobs that need to be done on the car.

•Fuel tank is dented, leaks and the fuel sender unit has stopped working. To fix these problems, the whole fuel tank needs replacing.
•The tracking may need to be sorted.
•The front anti-roll bar has broken, so this needs replacing. Bushes have also split.
•The gearbox is leaking fluid at an alarming rate, worst case senario is that the car will need a new gearbox.
•Exhaust silencer is cracked and blowing also the exhaust mounting have perished.
•There is a slight knock and too much play in the steering rack.
•Both outer driveshaft gaitors are perished.
•Bottom of drivers-side door is corroded.
•Rear trailing arm bushes have perished.
•Nearside front brake hose is starting to split.
•Rear traling arm bushes have perished.
•Plus a few other jobs which we are in the middle of dealing with.
£1500 to fix, get a job and fix it then like everyone else.

The quote came from a local garage and is taking into account all of the possible worst case scenarios.

They are pulling the cover over your eyes!

No way is that £1,500 to fix. the bushes are a couple of quid each as is the brake hose and the CV boots/gaitors.... Thats half of the project done.

I'm sure a steering rack is about £30 of ebay.

The other bits can be had from breakers on ebay, theres plenty of XRs being broken on there. I reckon £300 in parts alone. So they are charging you £1,200 in labour.

Find another garage or do 75% of the work yourself a novice can do that stuff. The tracking a garage will do, at the same time fit the steering rack and fit the gearbox.

The garage may be able to weld a new exhaust mount(if its on the chassis) or it'll be replaced with the new exhaust you'll be buying.

Post a pic of the rotten door, it may need a little bit of welding or again replaced from a breaker. If the door has to be replaced it'll be about £100-£200 cash job for a respray.
