I was expecting paper mache and just general shite. I am pleasantly surprised. This looks really well done. Wheels need to be changed, but that's no big deal! Looks like a great project, looking forward to seeing the end result!

Ok update time. First though thanks for the comments. Sounds funny but its nice to think you ALL expected a shitter and have been pleasantly surprised!

Here is how the side skirt WAS. Looks a bit odd where on a 3 door would normally go up the 3/4 panel.
Name: DSC03543_zps2503cd69.jpg
Views: 288
Size: 52.2 KB

As you can see in this pic, Ive blended the top edge line as smooth as I can. Where the line runs under the door, it actually drops down a fraction further to meet the top edge of the rest of the skirt. Ive also blended the outward facing egde. Harder to explain but can see the difference in the pics.

A host of trim and the wipers got a clean up and a new coat of matt black.
Name: DSC03590_zps4e478eba.jpg
Views: 294

Dont think I already showed this! I sprayed a random colour I had laying around on all 4 arches. Reason beeing you cant really see any slight dips with a matt primer! Something with a gloss finish makes it much easier to see. Any little lumps and bumps I found were then filled and sanded again to make flat. Last thing you want to see down the edge is ripples everywhere, and with a crap fibreglass kit its almost inevitable!

After finding rusted lamps I decided to replace them all. The outers I got from a shop on ebay well known for morette spares for Ł30. To my horror, the 3/4" smaller inners were Ł119! WTF After finding someone breaking an old set with perfect condition inners I had them for Ł50. Much more acceptable! Now they look the part.

The Mrs snapping we without knowing! Just some final panel wipe and a tack before paint.

After Panel wiping the lower half of a door, I felt a dip from a previous repair. Not really acceptable so it was filled, sanded and good to go............then I found this!

There were two of these little dents, one on each door. Only saw it when I was walking down the stairs and just happened to be at the right angle to see it!

Bit more prep. Small area of rust but the stopper thing on the bootlid.
Name: DSC03591_zpsa41c759a.jpg
Views: 293

Also needed some attention like on most escorts! As its seen, meant it needed massive scratches and couple small rust spots sorting.

I broke most of the cable clips when removing them Found some ford ones on ebay though so all's good.

Never sprayed a car before or even used a spray gun actually so its all good practice. Need to get a filter for the compressor to get rid of water in the system while spraying. So far though there have been no problems. Ive just taken my time and made sure to rid any imperfections between layers. The car has only had 2 coats so will need flatting and another coat if not 2. I will then laquer, wait for it to dry couple/few weeks then cut back and polish up. TBH its not that orange peel'y now, Ive seen FAR FAR worse!
Im happy anyway, its all a learning curve.

My fuel pump buggered up as well. This new one I got today will be my third! I think I'm running them dry, barely any fuel in the tank as its just sat in the garage and only just comes up to the driveway.....then back down again! I'll try looking after this one

On the look out for new wheels also, as Im not rushing to finish for Ford Fair. Im going to take my time and do it right.

Comments welcome. Full thread at www.escortevolution.co.uk same topic title as this one. Cheers.

There were some on ebay but he said he wont post as he hasnt time! If it was closer I'd of driven but its 5.3/4 hours just to get there!

Looks good!

Not picking holes, but why didn't you remove the door locks when spraying?

Ease to be honest. I've already lot count of what screws, nuts and bolts go where lol I never even looked at undoing them. As the doors will need the repaired dents touched up anyway, if its simple to get to them I may take them off now you quizzed me on it!

Some nice chaps on there. Not many wild build threads going on ( which is what I like) more tidy up's and the usual gti kit's going on. Its nice to flick between the two sites, get a bit of everything.

I know what you mean, there's only so many gti kits you can take lol. I like unusual builds. Yours is about as different as they come with good results too. So many have tried and failed miserably. Keep it up pal, ill give you a shout if I get stuck lol

I was looking at your car now painted and wondered if you ever thought about blanking the rear quarter windows? Never seen it done but was just a thought, now you've gone to the trouble of painting it lol

Edited to say, would it be ott to go as far and have inserts like on calibra's rear pillars?

I used paper polishing pads normally used for marble lol. Nabbed them from work, just like normal sand paper really, go up through the grades. (they're maybe not as harsh as normal sandpaper) Followed by a buffing wheel and a sh1tload of metal polishing wax. By the time I was done, It looked like I was wearing mascara! lol
