Black RS1600i GNM 866Y - Serious change of plan
Well I finally had my black RS 1600i delivered today. Its in a bad way but its going to get a full nut and bolt restoration. It is very origional with a lot of spares which I will sell off to fund the build such as a spare full interior, spare spoiler and spare front splitter.
It was a lot worse looking than this but while it was on the trailer I steam cleaned it to remove the green moss that it was covered in.
I would say from first inspection it will need
wings
front panel and cross member
inner and outer sills
rear panel
doors
bonnet
boot
repairs to the a pillars
scuttle panel
As you will see from the picture it has had a rear end shunt. This happened when it was sat on the previous owners mothers drive and she ran into it pushing it into the garage door and into his mint white 3 door that was sat in the garage
Hopefully Gaz from over the north east will be doing the work on the shell as he is well recommended.
Updates to follow
Some of you will have seen the ERST I restored a couple of years ago. This will be done to a much higher standard

Should look good. I found a NOS petrol cap and locking barrel/keys in my garage.... if you're looking for new parts?
(its mk3 escort genuine part still in its packaging.)

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this, Gaz painted my car last year and I was more than impressed with his service.
What happened to your S2? dont know if you remember but it was one of my good mates cars who passed away a few years back, was impressed with what you did with it he would have loved it.

There are 2 front splitters. One is badly out of shape but ill mount it to the car next weekend and hopefully with some heat it will come good. This will be sold on to help fund other parts. Ill keep the good one in the picture.
It currently has a mild steel exhaust fitted but it also came with this stainless exhaust. Not really sure which one to keep.
It came with 2 dashboards. One is cracked fairly badly and on only has 2 small cracks. Im going to look into getting the 2 of them repaired.
It came with 2 new pattern front wings. I will probably look for two genuine ones though.
Ive put all the light interior parts inside the car. I really need to look for some storage for a lot of the stuff as I have 2 complete interiors. One is still sat in the back of my astra and one is in the kids play room. My wife really isnt impressed.
When we emptied the car when we got it back we found this box with some new struts in. A nice little suprise. The car was so full of parts you couldnt see exactly what was there.
It came with a brand new metering head unopened. This should be good for getting it running sweet.
A spare set of coils which need tested.
Ive got a real problem with space as its a new house and the garage is tiny. I really need to decide what im keeping and get rid of the rest.

Ive started stripping it to get it ready for the body shop. Removed the battery and heater box to see what the bulkhead was like. Its no worse than I expected. Its had a battery tray at some point that seems to have been done badly.
Center of bulkhead isnt as bad as I thought it would be. Suppose the real problem area will be behind the brake servo though.
View from the inside with the sound proofing removed.

The floor pans are going to need replaced
And so are the chassis rails by the looks of it.
Inner sills are pretty much gone lol
Needs a good hoover to get rid of the rust. A good job to do over the weekend while the wife is at work.
And finally the rear panel that I knew was shot anyway.

Small progress. Im currently gathering panels, I have been offered a set of new genuine ford inner front wings complete with chassis legs from a kind member on the RSOC. Basically now the car will get a brand new front end. I have pattern front wings but im going to get some genuine ones, all other panels will just be from the local factors.
Ive found out recently that 2 friends I was a college with but lost contact with have bought a local welding and fabrication company. I was having a crack with them and they have said they will do all the panel work and fabrication over a couple of weekends for beer money. This is a major result as this was going to be the biggest expense in the project.
Im a bit stuck. How do you remove a sun roof that is seized and wont open?
