Tim's Performance Blue S1600 *2.0 ECOBOOST ENGINE SWAP, 370lbft 270whp*
Hi Guys copied my thread from over on ZSOC.
*Sharing is Caring*
Got the car new in 2010 as a 21st present and it served me well through my last 2 years of uni.
New in 2010
My original plan was to trade up after uni but i kind of got hooked on the little fiesta's revvy snarl and chassis that just eats up fast b roads. So we took a little trip up to the lakes this summer.
Hardknott Pass
And it was set I was keeping the car (not just because its easier to get insured on in Liverpool) and whilst yes i could spend less money on a focus st or something else and spend ages trying to get insured, i'm an engineer so i want to build something and get my hands dirty; besides who doesn't love something a little unique.
So Graduated, New Job, debts to parents paid, i started upgrading at the beginning of October starting with:
- k&n panel
- samco hose
- powerflex bushes all round
- steeda short shift with solid billet mounts
- steeda lower engine mount
- eibach springs
and then fitted them all in the garage (WIN) (forgot how much its just like meccano to me having not had chance to fiddle whilst at uni)
accidentally deleted all my in process shots so some bad phone pics will have to suffice for now.
Then for some TLC (2 years of being a lazy student took its toll on the cars look but nothing some elbow grease wouldn't solve)
clean stripe on the left, neglected stripe on the right looking sorry for itself.
And then a pre top gear live early morning trip to a friends garage to use his ramp to get at the ARB bushes.
Then on the way to topgear live in the NEC, we took a detour to WR Davies in welshpool who had graciously offered to let me test drive an MP140 kit.
Awesome, Hooligan sound from the exhaust and just what the car needs in terms of power..... props to the salesman Stefan as well who was an absolute hero during the test drive.
Saw glens car for sale whilst i was at WR Davies which gave me some more ideas.
Then off for some fun at Top Gear Live where i procured some CarSpunk Wax. Its quite soft but real easy to use so i wouldnt be worried about having to re apply it often.
The end of October couldn't come quick enough (Pay Day =D !) and despite my better judgement some pumagreed 300mm discs, adapters and mintex 1144 pads.
They are awesomely powerful but i still want more so maybe change again to some mondeo calipers or machine some brackets at work and fit some four pots.......powahhhhh.
Also secured some funds and ordered MR155 with mountune rear diffuser. I'm just waiting to hear from WR Davies to tell me when its in and ready to fit... I can already taste the awesome.
Finally a member and can wear my stickers proudly.
Hi guys, quick update....
first thinks first, my anti roll bars arrived so i proceeded to fit them straight away.
jacked up in my freezing cold garage.
rear bar
front up
300mm brakes
fitted front bar........what a completely ball ache that was =D
new bushes (waste of time fitting powerflex to the original bar but oh well)
Anyway got them fitted got rid of the squeaks and bangs that the cold caused and wow what a difference they make..... i'm still getting used to the car as i'm pushing it on a variety of different roads (when they're quiet of course) but the car is much more composed in the corners now and you can play with it even more..... its a little scary how much speed you can carry through at times when the cars wing mirror is no longer trying to kiss the floor but yet i've still just got my Eibach springs so the car rides lovely as well.... still want some bilstein b8's though *Bilstein hurry up*.
Really would like to get it on a track and try it as well but i'm undecided whether i want to track my little pride and joy.
So got the MR155 and wow it sings when you drive it hard........ only got 250 miles on it since it was done and serviced so its currently getting better and better by the day. Makes me want more low end now though so supercharger is on the horizon......:shifty:
photos from WR Davies:
my rear anti roll bar was knocking slightly at first so i just moved that along the rear arm to the right (nearly broke my nose with the torque wrench in the process *face palm*) but ive ordered some powerflex exhaust bushes to keep it all nice and tight.
only 5 quid each so ordered two each of the two different bushes ive seen for fords and we'll see which works best.
So Bilstein B14 coilovers and eibach spacers now fitted.
and looking a mess because of the weather : /

Custom mounts, downpipe, intercooler, rad and possibly drive shafts and then standalone management that supports direct injection. Will Pedley will be doing the work

Its an american company called racing beat. Its actually for a Mazda 2 but it shares a suspension platform with this shape fiesta. They have a UK distributor that imported it and the front ARB for me.
What i would say is that if you have an after market exhaust you need quite short exhaust bushes or as i've done put jubilee clips around them.
If i didn't already have these i would now go for the eibach set (as pumaspeed list) because the rear bar bolts in under the damper mount rather than over the main torsion beam.
Really makes the car sit up in the corners though =]
(clearly ford know about the fiesta roll though as the new fez st has a stiffer torsion beam as fitted to the bmax)

There were 3 engines at the beginning of last week and then one left last Thursday so I had to make it happen :P
I think on a base map with my 60mm exhaust and a custom intercooler and intake we should see between 250 to 280 bhp (I hope) and with the quaife diff fitted ill see how manageable that is.
Should be able to see a reliable 300 to 350 bhp with a huge power band once the turbo elbows are out from mountune so if 280 is too tame I have more options at a later date and it should still be as reliable as a daily should be without excessive servicing.
Just can't wait for Will to get stuck into the build for me and see where the costs lie.... hopefully should be enough left to swap the drums to discs and get some four pots up front......should keep me happy for a couple of months :P

Drove a new Fiesta ST recently and driving a new Focus ST at the minute and was thinking the 2.0-litre EcoBoost would be a good laugh in a Mk7!
Looking forward to seeing this come together!

On the initial install considering the engine is very low mileage, we are using my 60mm bore exhaust (standard for this engine is 55mm) and custom intercooler most likely, I'd expect modest gains over the standard power and torque which should be adequate fun with the quaife diff. Then once I'm happy with everything being sound and loosened up (and I've saved some more) will look at increasing power.

Thought it would've been Terry ha.
Can't wait to get it done.... now I've sorted the chassis can feel that it needs more power.
Keep watching anyway hope to have some brake updates this month before it goes to will pedley.
Cheers for the support.
