yeahh cheers fella, people get enough of an idea any hows, and theres always a link around to my photobucket page
http://s1295.beta.photobucket.com/user/jiminal/library/
there are a few pictures in there of the wiring behind the dash of the beemer, which was removed with feet rather than with tools as it would have taken too long, there must be about 7 kgs of wires that we have narrowed it down to to get the engine running, then with it all pluged in were going to start stripping out what we dont need.
also going to be using the bmw clocks so gotta work out how to fit them into it all aswell. going to hide a lot of the electrics behind the sierras sort of fake dash thing that sits above the bulkhead that we cut out.
also killed the heater matrix today so we could get the engine in the car so its getting replaced with a small 12v fan heater thats either on or off and will be directed straight at the windscreen through the existing vents, hoping to hide it under the dash somewhere. instant heat in the morning might also take a channel down to the foot wells too

what about mk2 RS2000 engine mounts? google them
why did you chop the bulkhead out??
fuck me your only fitting an engine pal...... chop the sump up!!
should only loose about an inch off the n/s/f corner id guess?
looking good
not like most of the other mugs coming on here saying they will do this and that conversion........ crack on lad.
oh, and i should have wiring diagrams for that if you want, is it a Bosch system?
send me a PM if you need em

today we got the engine and box mounted with the addition of a pair of shoes and a few welds and cuts we had to chop the subframe a little bit to allow the engine to come forward enough to use the old mounts, which has saved around 4 hours of fabrication work. the next step was to build a new gearbox mount using the original ford one, very nicely done by seamus i must say we then realised that for the gear linkage to fit we had to put a small cut in the tunnel and lift it a bit to fit the linkage in otherwise it rubbed on the prop. photos will be going up on photobucket and i will load them all up on here in a bit all on my ownses
oh and we stripped off the props from both cars, with the help of a forklift for the bmw ready to cut and weld together, then its in! also noticed that we are going to have to modify the drivers side mount to get the turbo intake to clear it, but other than that its gone in really smoothly.

yeahh will do eventually, going to get used to the power with it in the sierra first, then chip it, from what weve read they max out at about 180bhp probably due to the limitation of the pump (we think its the same as whats on 1.9tdi vw engines) itl already have a bit more power due to us removing the viscous fan, power steering pump and air conditioning unit. should be about 310nm so in something that weighs maybe 1250kgs... its going to be a handful!

getting the prop off with the hellp of the forklift
engine in!
on the mounts
the modified subframe
shoe mounts!
new gearbox mount made by seamus
rust over the next few photos
the slit we made for the gearbox linkage
the mount for the linkage again made by seamus
this is going to stay exposed in the car as the mount takes the place of the window switches and the slit means the original gearbox surround wont fit back on
still plenty of room on the standard suspension (lowered 35mm at the mo) but got konis going on with spax springs

manifold of a 324/524 (e28) will get the turbo up and with the t3 flange a lot of option on turbo.
one problem to overcome is the boost limiter in the ecu itself, cuts out around 1,3 bar iirc.can be sorted with a tee off to the map tricking it.
plunger and rotorhead of a 12valve cummins and some clever remap
headgasket cope up to 250-300 somewhere

remap=chipped, mapped etc etc. need to do some clever tuning anyway.
problem with adaptor plates is the clearance downwards.
a turbo option is the gt2256 from a x3 3.0D,vnt turbo.almost plug and pray.sufficient to 270 bhp
just make sure youre getting the vacuum operated one.
tuning threads about the m51 engine is almost non-excistent, but some swedes and some finns have some info in their native language.

might look into doing that later in the year, yeah your right about clearance, theres only a couple of inches at the mo as it is. think for now im going to leave it at about 180bhp, anymore and il have to start looking into better suspension, brakes diffs etc, so itl have to wait until i free up some more money

the engine and box are in! along with the prop and gear linkage, just electrics and welding left to do now, all the heavy work is done. il upload some pictures in a sec so you can all see what weve been up to!

no ford clubs that i know of. few classic car clubs. don't attend many shows as time a little limited. try and do pembs county road run if at all possible, usually in escort mk1. deadline for current projects is the run this year, usually aug / sept time. would love to get one if not both 3drs there. we shall wait and see.

yeah sorry been a bit slow on here, we just started playing with the loom today, ecu has been sent off to get it chipped and the immobiliser removed from the ecu (makes it plug and play) had the engine turning over in the car off the key and going to wire in the engine and put the front end back on tomorrow, including hopefully fitting the brake and clutch lines.

right quick update for anyone still interested, the radiator is in along with the brake lines and clutch lines, ecu is currently on its way back from the tuners so should have that back by next week, then itl be time to plug it in and see if it starts then just leaves us with putting the interior back in and the front end back on then taking it for its mot!

it would be nice to see this going. planning on putting volvo t5 in one of my shells so any problems you have may help me out, and the more i look into it the more i know there will be some big ones to overcome.

since that video we have removed about 75% of the wiring from the loom, with periodic starting checks, it now starts off the key and the throttle is off the pedal, but the clutch is still being a pain in the arse, so far we have brolen 2 slave cylinders so are going to steal the pedal box out of a subaru legacy and hope that works

it drives! put the pedal box out of the subaru in today, and it fitted really well! got it all in and bled up and took it for a spin up the drive, turns out it a bit of an animal! spins all the way up to 3rd and donuts on the spot! more info coming soon
