Default update

Finally have some news regarding the rebuild.

Engine should be back in car beginning June with a fair wind. We all know that means probably Aug/Sep but hey ho.

200 Block running Billet crankcaps, nicasil lined with modified oil system, piston jet squirters and Pace 3port dry sump system.

Arrows forged steel crank,Carillo long rods, JE forged pistons with titanium coated rings running 8.5:1CR

26mm inlet and 24mm exhaustports with standard valve sizes. BD16+ inlet and BD14 Exh cams

Asnu 1000cc injectors in aJenvey plenum.

Borg Warner EFR 7163 internalgated T4 on a custom twin scroll manifold into 3.5inch down pipe.

Motec M400 ecu

Boost mapped to road speed offfront axle

Custom chargecooling system

Target is a very responsive 450bhp. Going to peg boost at about 1.8Bar

Looking at getting Nortech to do custom twin scroll manifold and 3.5inch downpipe, Mike Edwards to do a nice 3.5" exhaust system.

I hate messy wiring so I emailed James at AutoDynamix today about re-wiring the whole caboodle.

The spec really is aimed at 600bhp ish + but I want a lot of safety margin built in.

As soon as I have some build pics I will get them up.

I hope so!

Just been reading back through this thread and it's a bit bitter sweet. Back in end of 2014 wifey was pregnant with what would have been our second child but sadly we lost him before she went full term.
She's now pregnant again and is now classed as high risk so the doctors are keeping a very close eye. 13 week scan on the 19th of this month so fingers crossed everyone please!

Default Request

Getting a little further on with this and need some help from the good people of passionford.

Basically I need a dummy engine! Doesn't matter if it's scrap, I just need to fit it on the engine mountings to enable an exhaust manifold to be built to the correct shape and size while my engine is being built.

I'll need it for 2-3 weeks and will pay beer tokens.

This will enable us to run the engine on the dyno before it goes in the car.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi mate, I somehow missed your last reply to me. We had pretty much the same thing and were on high risk and told after a ruptured ectopic that nearly killed my wife that we would never have kids....I have the most beautiful 7 yr old daughter born and made naturally...

Hello Toby,
I bet that was a worrying time. Daughters are great aren't they, mine is 2 and she's already got me wrapped round her little finger. I missed her birth as she arrived 7weeks early.

How's the pug?

Yes, always kind of wanted a boy before but soooo glad we had a girl. Pug is very nearly finished and ready for the mot. Once mot done I plan to put a few miles on it and then send to the trimmer for the rest of the carpets and rear deck.

Would love to see it one day when I have mine sorted. I'm on it like sonic at the moment. I need a dummy engine so I can send the rolling chassis up to Nortech. I'm thinking cheap pinto bottom end and scrap head or borrowing an engine for a few weeks.

Will be good to meet up for a drive out. If the chassis is being done don't you need the full engine and ancillaries on there? I will let you know if I hear of anything.

All sorted now, you've got to love this place sometimes. This will save me weeks and ensure that the engine is sound, no leaks, rattles because we can run it on Grace Engine Developments engine dyno.

Thanks to Costina.

Just as an aside, does anyone know flow data etc of the yb 4x4 water pump?

I'm looking at removing impeller from stock water pump and thermostat and using Pierburg cwa200 pump (BMW oe on 335i) and using a dedicated CAN controller. Flow rate and more importantly head is in another ball park to the Davies Craig pumps.

You can buy a digital controller for the dc pump which you can program aids warm up time etc.

We used an early controller but it didnt like the HT interference.

Default Cooler

Garrett core bought. It's 18x12x4.5.<br/>Pete at Spec R is building up into top feed and also installing oil cooler below and engineering the rear mount rad with a supplemental electric water pump after rad in return to engine.

LOL

the best are always busy!

No not yet, putting your kindly loaned block and head in next week then it goes to Nortech on the 4th and back on the 8th.
Pete will be the very last stop after engine installed, wired etc.

I'm under no illusions how long these things take!

Default update

All old parts stripped off, sold the old cooling pack, boost controller.

bought a roll cage which is being fitted next week as it`s just madness to drive this car without one really.

Car is in with Nortech as we speak having full exhaust done from head back.

I got a very nice offer for the Motec M400 ecu I had bought so that`s sold as well.

Change of venue for engineering work to the chassis, it`s going to Tylah motorsport to have the cage fitted so I went along to visit and he`s had a fair bit of experience engineering rear rad set ups. Bought an Airtec 60mm rad and it was MADE to fit in the rear. Guy from Tylah couldn`t believe I hadn`t had it specially made.
The water pipes to rear will be mandrel bent 1.25" aluminium tube. Still undecided on water pump situation. Car will go there directly after Nortech have finished, probably Monday. Intercooler core left with him to build up as well into top feed. It`s taken a bit of a weight off my mind finding Tylah Motorsport as someone needs to pull all this work together rather than me shipping the car round the UK. Just the trip to Rotherham and back was over Ł400.

Gone with a O2 sensor location on each of the primaries and one in the down pipe to make mapping easier. After mapping we will just use the downpipe sensor.

A LOT of work to do.

A LOT of work to do.
When using a sensor in the manifold you need a back pressure compensation for it.

Default Clutch

Last clutch I had was Alcon 6 paddle with hydraulic conversion. Was still heavy and a bit difficult in traffic.

Speaking to James at Grace engine developments yesterday he reckoned we could get away with an AP organic clutch seeing as the car is so light and it's only running 205 section rear tyres.
What do we reckon?

I dont think that would be a good idea.
I run a 5 paddle helix in mine with cable and its not that bad.
Do you really want to take it apart again to do a clutch.?

Check the torque specs for the organic think its only around 360 lbft.

Yes I've seen that but that's 360lb/ft with a car that weighs at the VERY least 1300kgs and with 4 people and a bit of luggage could be nearly 3 times the weight of my car. Yes the clutches have torque ratings but surely the weight must affect this as well?

I will call him again tomorrow and have another chat.
