any updates with the cause of the failure??
would like to say i've met the seller before when selling him some parts and seen this car when he was building it, it looked to be done at a very high standard and the engine was the only part that was built else where to a good spec.
tbh if you can get anything back at all from seller will be a bonus as its a race car and you have done 350 miles of unknown driving to him.
if it happened on the way home then that would be a different story

It`s not a race car, it`s a road car. You`re kind of contradicting yourself there really. You aren`t the one with a very expensive car that doesn`t work and a rebuild cost to face. Neither do you have all the facts.
Just to add I won`t be updating this thread under advisement.

to me its a track build car but road registered, a lot of track cars are registered for road use, even rally cars.
If you not updating this thread its was pointless putting on here.

Surely the only reason you wouldnt be updating it is something has been discovered the engine builder has done wrong, but not being disclosed because its being made right and doesn't want to look bad?

Well, the good news is this time next month the car will be back on the road better than ever. The whys and wherefore`s aren`t important but suffice to say I`m a happy owner. There are some very decent people on this planet. Rob, you are one of them.
Am writing this about 10 mins after the first bit because the misses has fallen out of the shower, how is that even possible!
Ok this is going to be the rebuild spec:
all work carried out by Reyland Motorsport
Race spec ported head 26.5mm inlet, not sure on exhaust.
Not 100% decided but we are replacing one cam so will probably go BD16 Inlet or maybe BD16+ and BD14 exh, new valve guides, double valve springs, new valve stem oil seals, new cam bearings and WRC head gasket with a block and head skim not forgetting 6 long stud block machining and special studs. ACL race main bearings and 4x4 high pressure oil pump and modded pick up pipe.
Other extra works: relocation of air intake and beading of metal boost pipes and water chargecooler pipes. Pistons, rings and bores all fine but having the rings re-gapped.
Can`t recommend Reyland highly enough.
Can`t wait!

I had a 220bhp engine in a Tiger 6 (Like a Westie) and it was bonkers, it didnt make much torque in comparison to a Turbo car so I cannot imagine what 500 bhp will be like....I would imagine 350bhp of tractable power is more than the chassis can put down but what fun finding out......

Shit, another strong engine gone for nothing. Seems one of this crap high pressure oil pumps caused it (this no oil pressure thing). Go for genuine or a protech one only (like many have absolutely no probs with these) and you will stay save. Even 40 year old genuine ones will work better than a brand new high pressure pump tbh.
Good luck with all. If all its done you will enjoy it twice more.

Picked car up from Reyland yesterday and pootled off the 100 miles or so home. Got home, checked everything over and went for a blast for a few hours. All I can say is Martin must do voodoo of some kind!
The engine is amazing! So much more tractable both on and off boost. Feels like its got about another 100bhp as well but the main thing is the transition from off boost to building boost to oh my god is this legal is so much more manageable than before.
It sounds better, starts better and I'm loving it!

According to martin there was an "amazing" amount of things wrong with the engine. One cam was scrap, cam cap bolt sheared needed helicoiling and head line boring. Valve stem oil seals had been inserted with a sledgehammer and broken, ring gaps all wrong, oil pump scored, shell bearings scored heavily. The porting was all over the place as well. That's all I can remember at the moment as I`m heading out for a blast!

Hey Red, I posted on your thread over on PH. Basically the car is in development as these things always are. In the process of changing shocks for protech and sorting an alternator mounting problem which caused a water leak on water pump.
It is also with a local rolling road to monitor intake temps as I will want to increase boost at some point. One these things are sorted I want it live mapped.
The work Martin did was sterling.

John glad things are coming together and glad its sorted full stop engine wise, Westfields and kit cars and any project car for that matter are always a constent upgrade from one thing to next and ironing out the gremlins along the way some piss you off but its the good days and blasts out that make it worth while and that car will and has to be one of the fastest A to B cars any money can buy..

Am I right in thinking you have or used to have a Cosworth Westfield?

update
Car has been going great guns, had a custom oil drain made which cured slight smoking on overrun. I`ve been logging intake temps and at 1.3bar a highest I`ve seen is 37 degrees C so pretty good but I thought I can improve that so went to see Spec R to measure up for a Garrett cored air to air intercooler. We`ve worked out we can fit in a 650bhp rated core. So at circa 450bhp I reckon that would be about right. I will be making some nosecone mods to improve airflow like ducting and some side mounted air pods to increase frontal area.
Come last Saturday I was bumbling along at about 40mph and cue a tapping/knocking noise!! Switched off and got towed home. GUTTED is not the word! Car was so nearly there was booked for a live map after the intercooler was fitted. Looking at oil/fuel contamination but not sure whether it is top end or bottom end.
Engine fired on three, then cleared then the knocking noise. Does it on tickover and revs. Oil pressure is still bang on??
