Default my focus ST188 loads of new updates

last year i bought an ST170 as daily drive.

i was lokking for an ST225 but i could not find one to my likings so i dicided to raise the budget on my rs turbo and buy an ST170 in stead.

this is how i got it:

i realy hate this kind of wheels so off they went and replaced them temporary with a set i had over i the garage:

it has hella xenon headlamps:

after a good clean:

also put in an k&n 57i inductionkit:

the drive felt much smoother with this filter and the new imrc.

then changed the licenceplate lights to led
also did all the interieur lights leds. looks nice

then i got a hold of a set of frs1 rims and coated them white:

got a set of custom made gelbadges for the centercaps:

buyed an rs pack spoiler and had it painted the right colour:

i hated the orange bulbs in the rearlights so they went out and replaced them with some phillips silverlights:

old:

new:

also cleaned behind the rearlights:

then i buyed an bluefinn chip:

then gave it a good clean again:

the next day we went with a couple of guys from focusclub nederland to the rollers:

it made 178,4 bhp with tune 2 map. not bad

that's it so far.
in the next few months i will replace the shocks wit a coilover set
and replace the exhaust with a custom build ss cat back and sportscat to millteck specs.
then i can run the tune 4 map and hopefully will be looking at around 200 bhp

@ white focus: no mate i put an english reverse in it for the symertry

@ underdog st170: difficult to say becouse i dont know what the bhp was before the bluefinn.
normally the power should go up by at leat 8 bhp.

I have seen standard st170 on rollers stuggling to make 155 bhp so if that is the case it is worth the money imo.
It also removes the mid range power dip a lott.

Bad luck about your clutch

There are a few options with flywheel, sadly all ridiculously priced.

TTV do one and there a few American companies like clutch masters that you can buy online from central Florida motorsports. Try googling focus SVT for examples.

I allready ordered a new set in the u.s.a.
it's a luK set with clutchplate, pressureplate, bearing/slavecilinder and dm flywheel.

the reason i ordered it there is simple: the money!
When i order a new clutch here in holland at ford i will be looking at 1000 euro, and that's only the clutch not to even think about the flywheel.
Now it cost me not even 500 euro for the full set including flywheel and shipping.

Also the thermostat housing has cracked so that will be replaced also.
The cranck seal on the box side is leaking only a little bit, but as the box is allready off we can reach it now so that also will be replaced.

to be continued.....

Time to blow off some dust here.
Clutch and flywheel are replaced and it all runs nice now.

I replaced the shoks with an KW variant1 coilover set.
Looks nice and low now

Very much looking foreward to it and will also collect some nice updates for the st170.

Also i'm looking for an st170 rocker cover and plug cover.
If somebody can help me with that please contact me.
They are hard to find here in Holland.

Been some time since i've updated so here we go....

Aternator had died so swapped it for a new one:

After that i went to ford fair for the first time.
Wauw what an event.
Always wanted to go but never had the time so i wasverry glad tha after a few years of looking at pictures of the event i finaly got to go.
I went for an whole weekend so a planned a trip to burton power to collect some parts for the ST.

A brand new k&n 57i kit becouse the old one was never cleaned by the previous owner.

Name: 20130810_170402_zps80bbfc79.jpg

also bought an full samco hose kit wich is for an rhd so 2 hoses did'nt fit.
But those hoses you cant see unless your onder the car so that's ok

Then the ST went on the bridge again for a custom made decat:

And finally the ST went on the rollers yesterday again to see what the power gain was.

Name: IMG_20131116_045810_zps9b7f54b1.jpg
Views: 73
Size: 154.1 KB

Name: IMG_20131116_045649_zpsdf99bcb9.jpg

The result:

Size: 99.3 KB

Name: 20131116_174244_zpsf33bf478.jpg
Views: 70
Size: 66.9 KB

Honestly i was a little dissapointed by the result.
I was expecting a little more.
I was hoping for around 200 hp and 250 Nm Becouse there was an st170 a few years back in holland with the same specs wich made that power.

I'm trying to figure out why mine did'nt make that power.
Maybe becouse the decat had only done 200 km's when it went on the rollers.
Is that possible????

What are other possibillity's or what can i do more to gain a little bit of power??

was thinking about the next few things:
* 67mm throttle boddie
* other fuelpump
* injectors

What do you guts think??

I allready upgraded the bluefinn to tune4

These are very hard to get decent power from over standard with little mods. Like your finding out. You could fit all three of your suggestions and still not get 200bhp.

The chances are, the other st170 you mention, reached 200 because of the dyno inaccuracy.

That's also what i'm affraid of.
But the suggestions i made make any differance at all or not?
And are there any other options for some power gain (if only a little) without rebuilding to a compressor or turbo kit or tb's?

wouldn't be too disappointed mine had near enough similler mods and only made 181 on E5 fuel, on the plus side great torque curve.
only other cheap mod is if its due timing belt changing exhaust cam pulley and retarding timing 6 degrees is supposed be worth a few BHP???

Being realistic theres a chance even your 187bhp is not genuine. thats a lot of power from your mods and if it is genuine then i would be very happy with it. decats apparently gain almost nothing sometimes a loss so your doing very good. id love it if mine made 187

This is very true. From my experience, on N/A vehicles, decats lose power rather than gain anything. Certainly loses torque.

Decats are beneficial on forced induction vehicles though.

You could try the cam pulley mod, as mentioned above. Also converting to single fly. You would also notice a bigger difference with smaller wheels, aftermarket and lighter.

n.a. tunning is a heart breaker, best off leaving it alone and enjoy it, or save your penny's towards forced induction if your after some more power.

Me too, although I would be happy with 140bhp

Saying that I must get mine on a rolling road soon, see where I am before I mess with it.

Can I ask turbo-herman, what size tyres did you fit on the RS wheels ?

i'm looking at pumaspeed for the cam gears but if i'm right i only need an adjustible cam gear for the exhoust side???
If so, are there any other cam gears a should be looking for?

I'm also looking for the 67mm throttlebodie. should be an good upgrade to gain a little bit of hp. are there also any other then at pumaspeed?
If i buy one, will the samco induction hose still fit to the throttlebodie or not?

The only thing i can do then to gain some hp (even if its a little) is maybe an uprated fuelpump en bigger injectors.
Will this be worth the money or not?

I think i dont go with a turbo conversion or compressor due to it's a daily ride and the fuel consumption will only go up and these conversions are quit a lott of money.
I'd rather put the money in my escort rs turbo restauration.

Cheers for the comments guys

yes you only need exhaust pulley and retard it to -6degrees. this is one of my next mods too but they usually sold in pairs. iv read mixed views on the throttle body and to be honest it doesnt seem to be worth the money.they are not cheap. im no expert but i cant see what a new fuel pump and injectors will do. if you cant get a major amount of extra air in then fuel will be useless.

i agree but i thought maybe with an 67mm throttle boddie it would be good.
Pumaspeed recons it would give an instand 4-6 bhp extra.
On the other hand i can't imagine that the oem pump and injectors can't keep up.
But maybe you guys have more expecriance with that.

I've also seen An underdrive pullykit at pumaspee wich should give a few extra horsepower!!??
I guess it's becouse of the weight of the pully's?
Will this be a good mod?
Next year i need to replace the timing belt so it would be a good excuse to do this.
