Hi all, building a rally car from a ka to compete in the 1400cc class, thinkin of using the 1400 zetec engine as a pose to the 1300 crossflow, is this a wise move?...cheers

i used to sell a lot of puma/fiesta conversion bits, rear brakes, engines etc to Chris Birkbeck rallyschool

its easy dont and quite a few about for referance now

well unless you happen to have a good 1.3 ex championship Ka engine laying about like i did (Recent LHD KA rally build on here) then yes its a good idea, but remember your budget, if your going to spend most of it on making a good chassis (cage, suspension, tyres) then your going to have to stick with the standard 1.3 just remember what your really going to need: not just engine, ECU and loom etc etc but ignition barrel for acceptable keys possibley!! all the little nuts and bolts etc etc. and if your incompetant doing it yourself how much is a reputable welder going to cost for the engine mounts etc etc
there is a 1.4 convert ka on pistonheads with full cage etc in it

Yep my dad has His own garage and is an experienced rally driver. He hasnt rallied since 89' so thats why were a bit out of touch. Welding and swapping engines etc isnt a problem, we were just going to buy a whole car for a donor as were in the salvage business but i was just wonderiNg if anybody has come across any major problems an if the engine upgrademis well worth it??!

I'd say go for it, got a 1.4 zetec in my fiesta with 138k on the clock and its as sweet as! Been talking to some blokes who rallied with 1.4 zetecs, some gsxr throttle bodies, headwork, cams, tubular manifold and a good ecu can see 130-140bhp for about £2k so I'm told

That sounds good from what iv read itll be the zetec route i go down.Iv found a donor car thats a write off but its looking like everything is there.
We are building the car for the mull rally so a close ratio box is on the cards. I might as well stsrt a thread when i get going with it next week but there is no rush for the engine just yet as were still welding the shell up and fitting the cage lol
