Default Black/Red 2004 Fiesta Flame

Hey there guys

So I bought this Fiesta 1.4 Flame back in September and after driving it round and trawling the forums I've decided to make a few changes! However there are a few problems that need fixing first:

- Steering rack replacement (Its currently failing but planned for replacement in January)
- Central locking fixes (Having to use a key to get in as the drivers door lock appears to make sounds but won't unlock the door!)
- Instrument cluster replacement (Makes a lovely crackling static noise every time the car is started up and is displaying the 'EE/FAIL' message in diagnostic mode, replacement planned for January as the immobiliser locked last time we tried to replace it and I don't appear to have an immobiliser code!)

Anyway, onto the changes i intend to make, the list is small at the moment but when funds allow maybe I'll make more changes:

- Change to MK6 facelift lights
- Replacement of Ford badges (both seem quite worn out)
- Removal of a small rust patch that has appeared right under the rear window
- Repainting of all brakes (Previous owner clearly used the wrong paint)
- Fit an auxiliary connection for stereo (Not sure at all how to do this)
- Following the red brake colour, I'd like to colour a few of the other parts of the car in red, not sure what parts to colour but I'm open to suggestion!

Only have pictures of the outside at the moment but more pictures will follow

So, what do you all think?

Im not so sure either, but I think it would look weird only having the front brakes painted red and the rear ones in black, and I'm not wanting to swap the read for discs because Ive just had to have the stub axle, wheel bearing, ABS ring and ABS sensor replaced when the bearing failed and practically ate everything around it

Looks tidy! Don't paint anything red though do the drums / calipers silver or black.

Lower it a bit, put on some nice wheels, job jobbed

Never thought of silver actually, sounds alright! Have thought about putting it on some 17 inch alloys I saw on a MK7 the other day, They are only Ford standard ones but they do look a lot better

Right I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this central locking problem, so let me list the symptoms:

- Drivers door will not lock or unlock when remote is used
- Drivers door lock can be heard actuating but as above, doesn't lock/unlock the door
- When the car is locked by remote, the drivers door remains unlocked and when opened I would expect the alarm to go off, this doesn't happen
- When pressing buttons on the remote, you have to hold them down to get any response from the car, sometimes having to press the buttons for as long as 10 seconds to make the system work, this remained the same after changing the remote battery and repairing the key

I thought it could maybe be a stuck solenoid in the drivers door lock, probably due to the cold, but could the GEM/Central Locking and Alarm Control module, would this sound about right? And what are the steps/costs required in fixing this?

Thanks

I have tested the GEM tonight after figuring out how to enter its diagnostic mode, it is receiving inputs when the lock and unlock buttons are pressed and held down, although as mentioned above, you have to press and hold the buttons for a long time before an input is received, maybe the receiver is broken

The car's steering rack is being replaced next week, can't come soon enough, going to cost nearly £400! :/

Steering rack has been replaced, but the light steering and knocking continues! So, apart from:

- Steering rack
- Track rod ends
- Ball joints

What could cause light steering and a knocking over bumps?
