My brother has just fitted a m factory diff to his civic and it's really good. Cheapest I can find too for 459 so I'm thinking of getting one.

Have you heard about the mini cooper s LSD? I'm sure I heard somewhere they could/should fit as it's near enough the same box??
I think even at these power levels that a LSD will make a massive difference.

Oooh interested in this. Looking about 700 for a quaife if you fit yourself.

i did feel at silverstone i could exit much quicker with a diff.
i have tried to research the mini diff in the past and it does fit as its same box but i read the lsd was an optional extra so buying a box would be a lottery.

my knowledge of diffs is very limited but i was reading earlier about the difference between a helical and a plated diff. i read that a helical diff will go open if you lift a wheel whereas a plated wont, but plated diffs wear out.
thats my knowledge exhausted right there. feel free to give me more advice.
the thing that leads me to m factory is the price and they say they are better than quaife for strenghth, not that il be stressing it with my power

I've heard good things about the M factory diffs especially for the price.
I can only comment personally on the quaife I had in the focus, which was easily the best thing I ever did to it. The amount of extra speed I gained in the corners, particularly the longer corners such as coram at snetterton was unbelievable!
I would like to try a plated diff such as a gripper and I've been recommended them too but they are more expensive even than the quaife. But you can set up the ramp angles in a plated type diff to suit the style/purpose of your driving which is a plus. They are not fit and forget like torsen type diffs as the friction plates within them wear out over time and will require rebuilding at some point depending on their use but I know gripper provide this service at a fairly decent price! Plated type differentials are also more subject to understeer than torsen type differentials but they don't have the grabby feel that diffs like the quaife do when you can really feel it moving the torque across the axle kind of like the way torque steer feels, which is strange to get used to at first.
I know that wavetrac produce a torsen type differential which can still operate in no load conditions like a plated type differential would but they are also super expensive!
I did a bit of investigation into the Mini Cooper LSD the other day and apparently it isn't a direct fit to an st170 box - not sure exactly what would need to be changed, but I think the m factory is a better option!

I run a quaife diff and the one thing they said when i bought it was the gear kit will die long before there diff would give out at whatever power level im pushing so not to worry but if i do manage it rip it out send it to them and a replacement will be given straight away no cost etc

nice thats some healthy bhp you got.
my diff is ordered and on its way from usa so pretty excited about that.
M factory have been pretty awesome to deal with so cant wait for it to turn up.
also sorted a deal with black diamond for a stage 1 clutch.
finaly my clutch woes will be a thing of the past.

Let me know how you get on with the M factory diff Steve. I've no personal experience with M Factory but would love to know your opinion on how it works. Will be looking into a diff at some point next year hopefully if I can round up the funds from somewhere! Was the best mod I done on the focus.

iv not done anything yet paul. iv got the diff and clutch but not had time for the car. as you probably seen on facebook im having a carrer change and setting up my new business so thats taken up my time.
thank you. no i havent but a good few yrs back i got addicted to car racing sims and using a proper wheel setup on them. theres some awesome people around the racing game world and i learnt most my of corner lines and suspension tuning from games. it was my addiction to these games that made me want to move into doing it more for real. iv given up the gaming now though and sold all my setup to fund this car.

hey
having a look at your flat floor , got some questions if you dont mind
my focus still has the wheel well in the boot as it holds all my fuel pump stuff , handy having it so cutting it out isnt up there on my to do list , i know you have cut yours out but looking at your diffuser you havnt moved it right up as far as it could go to the under side, is there any reason why you have used the bottom of the axel as your floor point so to say ? almost keeping the diffuser as low to the ground as it can be?
does your flat floor not naturally want to run into the rear beam if that makes sense ? rather than bend down the the lowest part of the rear beam ?
just wondering how to go about my flat floor ect thats all

Sorry for late reply not checked on here for a while. I found the lowest point of the rear subframe is higher than the lowest point of the floor. The bottom of the suffrage is a good mounting point. But the reason the diffuser doesn't go up higher into the wheel well space and bumper cutout is because toof steep an angle renders the diffuser useless and will create drag. Around 7-10 degrees is the norm.

Hi there, I'm just looking at fitting a aftermarket throttle pedal in my st170, for the same reason you have - I can't heal and toe it!
Did you have to drill the pedal or will the rubber 'bungs' just remove and leave a hole?
Sad to see the areo going on the car although I can imagine it being difficult to drive on normal roads
Im glad that you have noted that the steering wheel comes backwards - my driving position has improved loads after finding that out!
Cheers

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Jack a curved diffuser could run a steeper angle towards the tip than mine.
Jammer I just drilled through the pedal for mine.
Iv got back working on the car this week after a long break.
Iv fitted a new black Diamond stage 1 clutch and M factory lsd. Iv yet to drive it as a few bits to finish like fluids and fitting airbox etc but that will get done this week. Il just pop some pics up now so thanks for looking.

Physically swapping it is very easy. Lift old diff out remove the ring gear and fit on new diff and pop it back in with new bearings. Technically there's complications with shimming the bearings but I confess to having a little check and leaving the stock shim set up.

I tested it today in the wet and is very good. First experience of a fwd lsd. It's like a outside force is pulling your car around the corner. I like it
