Sounds lush Steve, looks very well balanced too.

With regards to your roof question, maybe worth looking into trying some "flow visualization paint", that would give some interesting results I recon.

Thanks chaps. It is really stable to drive but it's too safe. I dont want it like it was at silverstone but I also don't want the rear grip it has now. Somewhere inbetween is what I will find. Im not unhappy in any way as a big part of the fun for me is messing about with it. Just want to get back on track asap.

Dug out my old phone from when I last went to Combe and I was wrong about how much top speed I lost. I was 2mph slower this time not 6. That's not as bad as I thought. Few tweaks and may gain a little baxk

My lap timer failed. It was timing double laps. But the top speed was showing. I timed from my footage and best was 1:24:1. Last time I did 23:97. Rear settings are 2.5-3 camber. Toe in .2 and shocks on 25-27 on 400lb springs.

im having a redesign of the front splitter next. its got some flaws in its design so hopefully by next track day i would have made a new one.

also the thing this pic really shows is that although the wing is roof mounted its not actually higher than the highest point of the roof. kinda shows how much the roof tapers down to the back.

I was at the Castle Combe action day although I was unable to go out due to still running my engine in. Car looked like it was going well though. Are you going on the 20th June?

the pen outline is the old one. still plenty to do though

Steve have you thought about using a collection front bumper?
There abit longer then std bumpers and they have enough room in them for 2 brake air feeds 1 cold air intake and a oil cooler.

oops, I mean't Classic Car and Retro day - but my friend has just purchased an ST170 and I asked on his behalf whether he could come and it was a no, which is fair enough. I would like to get over to Llandow again at some point this year. Next time I see you I shall say hi (If you see me then feel free to come over).

I should add that I use a "Standard on the outside but modified on the inside" Escort GTi for track although I used to have a black Mk5 XR3i before it got too light (rust)

I hadn't really no. That would just get me into more spending unnecessary. Lol. Iv got plans for subtle changes to this bumper for now.

so rather than wait until the splitter is finished i thought id add some pics as and when i get time to work on it. had an hour or so today so this is the final shape.

Name: image_43.jpg
Views: 339

the cut out is where the manifold and cat is. i dont want the plywood close to the heat so it will get some aly sheet over the bottom of it like this

Name: image_42.jpg
Views: 331
Size: 140.7 KB

and heres a comparison of the old with the new.

Name: image_41.jpg
Views: 338
Size: 210.1 KB

its going to be 45mm lower than the old one. so about 80mm off the floor this time around.

thanks for looking as always

Thanks chaps.

its still not finished but i have done some more work on it. its painted in undercoat.

cut the upstand so it can curve to the shape of bumper

Name: image_48.jpg
Views: 335

Name: image_49.jpg
Views: 329

and mocking up its mounting points.
Name: image_51.jpg
Views: 357
Size: 225.6 KB

rivnut the subframe

Name: image_47.jpg
Views: 330
Size: 181.7 KB

front mounting bar as the last one but 50mm lower and theres 6 rivnuts across the front bar.

Name: image_45.jpg
Views: 326
Size: 195.1 KB

exhaust cutout that will get aly cover

Name: image_52.jpg
Views: 328
Size: 149.3 KB

so still a bit to do to finsh it and paint it.

but i also had the bent last week. its going to be the flat floor. rather than flatten it all im going to have a central tunnel from front to back. its only 125mm narrower each side of car but it will make jacking up easier.
Name: image_44.jpg
Views: 339
Size: 186.7 KB

sheet is 2500mm long so will run from front splitter to back of rear subframe where eventually il make a diffuser.

lots to do and little time. thanks for looking

im doing morning only. i expect the morning to be really busy queing up but doing charity rides means a free pass to run out anytime.as it will be short runs with passengers it will give me plenty of time to suss out how the mods are feeling. then in the afternoon il have some time to myself to tinker and enjoy.
did you read my pm, cos i got a blank message as a reply. no probs on spring but thanks anyway.

thanks rog. its got such a good rake from front to rear i got high hopes for some benefits. the floor rises 50mm from front to rear which should be great for aerodynamics. a diffuser will come at some point just not sure if it will be before combe. iv also got some mods planned to smoothe out airflow on the front end but il wait till i do it to show what im thinking. if i can push my top speed at combe from 110 to 112 id see it as a great success. thats my target.
