Default ford Sapphire 2.0 GLI TURBO

Hi there

Im from South Africa , I want to re build a 2.0 as a turbo , as somone decided to re arrange my car on the highway
As you can see i will have to transplant it into another body

I want to fit a turbo to the 2.0 pinto motor

I have a few questions
  1. Do I have to drop the compression , Im not greedy 0.5 bar boost is enough for me
  2. if i have to drop the compression can i get away by skimming the original pistons
  3. if so by how much
  4. can i use the stanadard head gasket ?
thank you

i would not run a turbo on a completely standard pinto. a decompression plate would probably do. someone will know the maths to calculate exactly how thick depending on the boost.
i wouldn't skim standard pistons either.
Import a YB? essentially based on a pinto

HI Nisaar,

Im also from SA, what area you stay?

I have a 2.0 standard Pinto as well. It was slotted in a 1991 1.8 Chasseur Shell, UK Spec. Send me a pic of urs to compare. I'm planing to do a full cosworth conversion 4x4 spec. Just very hard on getting contacts to import parts.

Cheers,

check standard compression first think some export pintos are lower compression due to fuel also transit pintos have lower compression pistons if this helps

When the manifold on my turbo technics converted sapphire got cracked I went to top boss performance to pick up a rear beam, i'd also got the manifold with me so showed it to fitz who said it was a saab turbo manifold and to go down the road to a place that would sell me one cheap which they did.
