When the Twins did mine, they left 3 inches of the old roof skin upto the gutters and around the front and rear window/ hatch.

Default Hit a milestone today

Hi all, thanks for your interest in the progress so far.

Massive update tonight! To say I'm pleased is an understatement

Made up the fittings for the 'home made' shell spit to work, took a couple of days to get it right and a good fit.

Finally got everything in line and got the car secured up on the spit, this has been the point that has been waiting for ages, now almost everything can be done to the shell with ease.

Exited at this point much faster progress from here on in.

Cut the sunroof out

Now to order the carbon roof skin

Emptied the car out of all the parts that were stored in it, and tried the spit out

Happy with that!

Then today's progress:

Started removing the under seal to see the full extent of rust

Defiantly is going to need 2 new full sills. The arch section of the rear quarters and a couple of other bits. There's a few bits that need full attention, but there's less than what I'd expected. I'm happy

Thank you for looking so far

Al

Update:

So, like I promised, more updates and MUCH better quality pictures

First up was a bit more removal of the underseal

As you can see, I mentioned the sills need replacing, gave them a good bang today to reveal their true mess. So these will need to be cut out.

I will also be changing to a flat boot floor for the fuel tank to be fitted inside the car, so,
Marked out where to cut

And hey! Presto!

Now, the garage needs another clean up, there's a mess everywhere. Can move more bits around and create more room.
Once this side is done, it's onto the otherwise of the underneath.

Thanks

Done a bit more today, where the front seats bolt to they were rusted so we made a new plate to go in as its going to be a track car. We didn't need bolt holes so we used a flat piece of metal and welded it on and put primer on to stop it from rusting.

Hi guys had a bit of bad news today as I have a brain injury from the accident last year I seen a doctor today an they said I'm not aloud to go fast or on track ever again or gokarting because the harshness can cause my brain to bleed which could have very serious consequences. I'm going to have a cosworth for the road to take to shows and things. So has anybody got any suggestions on what to do with this car as I've cut the sunroof out and the spare wheel well?????

Keep on with it mate.
The brain is an incredible thing and has great recovery powers. There's a fair chance by the time you're done you'll be fit enough to track it. As you say if you can keep it road legal too then you're covered either way.
By the time I cut the roof out of mine I thought 'there's no going back now!'
All the best,
Iain

Hi guys I have a rs500 fibreglass splitter which caught the floor on the drive when I got it which caused it to split and make a hole in it. It needed filling so I was bored today and decided to do it, it just needs painting now so going to try and do it this week

Thanks mate. It does give you a bit more noise but people say there a good mod. If there really noisy I can always change them to poly ones
