Cracking wee car this. All the 172's were killing most things on Saturday! It'll be even better with that head you were talking about the other day.

I started stripping the Clio down this morning so I can send the jenvey manifold away with the phase 1 head to get ported and matched, I also got a 182 exhaust manifold and should be picking up some 120mm trumpets later this week.
I also picked up a spray tin of bright green plasidip to try as fancy doing the car green with grey renault sport graphics next year, not sure if I like the finish as its a Matt look so may have a rethink about a wrap or paint depending on £££.

Looks like a benetton polo at the moment, lol.

Whats that plastidip stuff like to use?

Been tempted by the light blue for my snotty old T4 van which is currently white with rusty bits.

Seems fairly easy to use chip I think it would actually be easier with the proper sprayer as the nozzle on the can kept blocking.
I had over spray on the bonnet and door but it just rubs and peels off easily, my reason for doing a test was I had heard it can faid quickly so I will see what it's like after sitting outside for a few months.

The longer inlet track should give more torque in the lower part of the rev range.

I see, so that will help you out on lower speed corners I guess?

Ive also just put a deposit down on a newly developed roll centre correction kit.

I work offshore as a mechanic/ hydraulic engineer, i actualy took a year out from the industry this year but start a new job next week so off to Norway then Korea.

After a mix up with the wosners pistons being the wrong bore they were sent back and I got a set of pec pistons which needed machined to the required comp ratio. I have went for 12.8:1 to keep things safe on available pump fuel, this week I also received my pure Motorsport shifter and a full set of black series bushes for the front end to be fitted with the roll center correction kit.
Hopefully next week will see some actual work on the car started.

Not really when you think that my total spend on this car is less than a decent transmission set up for a big power 4wd cosworth.

Yeh I'm really looking forward to trying it out next year with the new hub set up, James that did the testing of the kit said it was one of the biggest changes he made to his race car.

I have had many hours discussion about those parts for the suspension with Mark, what material, what size thread etc, they do work well.
What bore size pistons ?
If being bored new oil jets will be needed.
Porkie has one of those gear lever kits looks a good bit of kit, he also had the full exhaust and manifold to go with the engine I have built him, despite what has been said before these engines do suffer with oil pressure and surge problems, Porkie's engine now has a modified oil pump, baffled sump, tagged bearings (ends and mains) steel rods, forged pistons, ported head, steel flywheel etc
He is also having a roll centre correction kit.

Chip had mentioned bits about Lee's new build over on cliosport, sounds like a serious engine.
I have just went for standard bore, its a low mileage engine and touch wood bar an oil change hasn't used a drop of oil on the 5 trackdays i've done in the car.
Im not planning on reving to more than 7800 as with the ED cams power will be dropping after that I think. I haven't stripped the bottom end yet but will be checking for signs of oil starvation so plans may change.

Today's progress.
I got the head off and bottom end stripped, really happy with the condition of the shells and bores they are both like new. There are no lips or scores in the bores and you can still clearly see the original honing marks.

Got the bottom end almost built up but one set off rings were the wrong size so Dave at PEC is sending out another pack. I was shocked at how high the pistons sit and intrude into the head, but this is the first high comp engine I have had in bits as use to turbo cars.

I have changed out the anti roll bar bushes and removed the bottom arms ready for the polly bush sleeves, and to get the uni ball holders fitted once they arrive.

Bit of a poor update as been away with work so not got much done, I did finish the bottom end this morning and hope to pick up the ported head on Monday.
I went through today and dropped off some uprated catcam springs and new valve stem seal, while there I got a few phone pics of the headwork so far.

It was just over 210 bhp before so hoping for between 220 and 225 now, but my cams may hold it back.

With working away I would miss half the rounds, depending on which engine he runs Paul Bell should do wall in his nova though.
I did look into doing the super laps Scotland series but they have made it so much more expensive , with the new rules as its now almost a blue book event. I think the original idea of it being a middle step between a track day and competition driving made It more appealing.

THIS.

I was all set to join up for that, but the costs are crazy. £160 a round now I think, more when you consider fuel, tyres, brakes, the transponder thing etc

You can get a trackscotland day at knockhill for £100-£120. I'd only be doing it for shits'n'giggles anyhow. I'm not rich enough to do competition!

Yip there was another two of my mates that were interested, I think it would be possible to do it in a near standard road car but as soon as you strip it out then they want fia in date seats , cage...
Even though the car has been checked over and they are happy for it to do trackday I would need to change a lot now to enter SLS so will stick to doing as many open pit track days as I can.

I Lives
Picked up the head and jenvey inlet at lunchtime and set about fitting the head, and getting it timed up. Due to the porting I have lost the o ring on the jenvey manifold as it had been opened up and matched to the head, luckily I had a new inlet gasket with the head kit I bought so opened it out slightly and fitted it.
I only managed to run the engine for a few minutes as I don't have a link pipe so straight from the manifold is LOUD, s**t myself when it backfired the first time I cranked it .
So now need to make up a linkpipe as I now have a 182 manifold fitted and set up the pure motorsport shifter then waiting on new hubs to arrive.
