oh dear.... you have got totally carried away just like I have.

Forged high comp engine, with proper cams and ported head and Gripper plated diff next?

Then realise.... OMFG. I've spent HOW much on a Clio?!?!?!?!? I should have just bought an Exige

Looking cool though mate. Come down and do the Renault sport days next year?

I got the ecu back from Omex this morning after a super quick 24 hr turnaround, to refit ignition amplifiers and change the processor that got blown due to them being removed.
Plugged the ecu in and the car fired first time, Iv balanced the bodies as best as I could without a gauge and drove it to Sitech Racing who will be mapping it. Will be a month before I get to see how it goes as I leave tomorrow for China with work, hopping for figures at the right side of 200.

Nice Neil mines been road tested tonight by my mechanic he phoned me shocked he said its wild, quicker than his rally car already (however my head is ported) , which is comforting lol. However I don't think I'll be going tb's like you I don't like them quite happy keeping things basic. Just need a race battery setup and engine mounts and top mounts and ill be happy!

Sounds good Adam I thought about getting a ported head but people get 210 on the standard CNC ported, may look at one if I ever go high comp.

Am I being a grumpy old fcuk when I wonder why people strip out cars like this for track days?

Fair enough if it was some race series where all the cars were stock and you were only alowed to do weight saving mods to save 100th sec over a lap.. but track days? Bet you can't even hear radio 4!

My mrs quite fancies one of these little cars. We had one of the original old ones years ago.

Radio 4 it ain't even got a stereo lol
Weight saving cost nothing and helps handling and performance. Most of the miles this car will do will either be on track or getting to track so comfort isn't a priority.

See as you know we had to move the running gear over anyway to the caged car and my mates brother wrote his 172 off about a year before saw my post on fb and offered me the head at 200 so rude not too! Unsure if it's got cams I just fitted his whole head with cams etc not driven it myself but as said my mechanic says it's awesome. I'll put some fresh pics up soon I've been letting him get on with it as he owes me so trying not to do too much or I won't get my monies worth out a him .

New 15" track wheels bought just need to sort out some track tires ,then decide if im going ot keep my 16's as road wheels with normal tires or sell the Turinis with 888's fitted.

The 1.2's are 6.9kg and the standard Turinis just under 10Kg so I think that combined with the smaller tire should give around 3.5-4kg saving per corner.

Would hope for somewhere around 205 bhp and 170 ft/lb but as the engine is standard internals and valves, will be limiting the revs to around 7500rpm.
As it will mainly be used at Knockhill your not holding high revs for a long time so hope it should be reliable. If not a set of one piece valves , pistons and rods mightl get built into a replacement engine.

Got emailed a work in progress power print out , so here it is compared to my old spec. The ARP's are now in so will be reving to 7500-7600 RPM , and more mapping to smooth out the delivery.

I did think about a jump from 90mm to 110mm trumpets to increase torque , but as it running a standard box and clutch this may just add extra cost for unreliable gains ?

Final power output was 174.8 bhp at the wheels and 166.1 lbft , I picked the car up tonight and love the way it goes it just revs so much more freely than before.

Also bought these to use as track wheels with 888's or Ao48's for track then use the 1.2's with Yokos for road and wet

Flol @ it making over 220 bhp when projected to flywheel with those transmission losses.

Main thing is, irrelevant of the exact figure, it's got loads more now 175 at wheels on a dyno dynamics for one of these gets displayed as 205@fly by the way just in case you wondered.

That will be a right little weapon now

Yip Simon did tell me to go with the atw figures. The standard injectors are just clipping 100% at peak power so going by others results like burpspeed that is normaly around 205/210 bhp. I'm going to get Megane injectors to be safe and also if I go for 120mm trumpets. But for now I'm just wanting to get it out on track but end of season is here.

Yeah a set of meggy injectors like we used on porkies are a good way to go.

Will need a bit of a tweak to the fuel map afterwards as the rescaling algorythm never works perfectly to change injector sizes, but at least the ignition map wont need touching so you can just do it on the road easily to map the fuelling if you want.

As chip says both the sets of pro race wheels are 15" so lighter and cheaper to get track tyres for.

As with alot of these cars the headlights had started to fog up and disscolour so gave the 3M headlight resto kit a go.

Hows things stranger ?
It should be good fun out on track , and has the bonus of being cheap to fix if it blows up an engine is Ł2/300 then switch the good bits over.

Well after thinking of selling the clio at the end of last year and actualy getting an offer of my full asking price , I bottled it and decided to keep it for some fun

Since then the only new mods done are some nice blue harnesses that came out of my new focus RS, and a quick corner weight session coming in at 957kg fairly heavy against my friends 106gti at 840kg.
Im thinking a diet may be in order how much weight can be saved with lexan windows, and fiberglass bonnet and tailgate ?

Yesterday was my first trackday of the year a 5 hour open pit day at knockhill, im happy to say it drove there did 6 sessions and drove home without any issues.

Yeh ive heard of that aswell but had seen the results of the G3 kit and decided to give that a try.

Looks like fiberglass tailgate, bonnet and lexan windows will be the next mods with a target weight of around 920kg.

Just put some Lexan windows in mine and you'd be surprised how heavy the glass is when you take it out. The rear quarter windows are a fuckin pain to get out though!!
