Default The decisions been made -

We have the information to proceed with my engine/dry sump. The crank was sent to Arrow for a check-up /polish/grind. They found a crack, cant see it by eye & its not on a bearing surface but its there. Could be drilled & stopped but not a possibility at this Power level. Its been in the engine since 2004 & done all the 200mph Topspeed runs & around 18k road miles. It survived the cracked Block episode in 2006 & ive no doubt that shortened its life.
A new crank is required, that’s not a problem because back in 2004 Mark ordered 2 off. So we have a new DKR crank to hand.
Mark had declared 2 rods unfit for service so a new set will be fitted. Pistons/Bore seem perfect but a final decision on this is to be made on re-build. The new cam is unlikely to be tried as we know this one works.
The Borg Warner Turbo will not be available for a while yet as the Indy car customers are getting first dibs. The GTX4202 should make more Power so it will be retained until the Topspeed effort has been accomplished, then a 91/80 EFR will do the puffing duties.
Im going to work on the car next Tuesday the first time for some while, starting to drill & fit the oil lines etc. Lots of jobs to be done to get the boot area looking as I want it.
The dry sump system will have Vipec early oil warning system thats just been tested on another car. Also a bullet aimed at my head will be deployed if i rev this new engine to 8.9k @ 2.9bar in the gears continously . He still looks at the Data Log in disbelief muttering the speed reached on the Newbury bypass . Ive got to change or im a dead man.
This still wont happen quickly as Im/Mark are very busy on other things but the Ace Café in May sounds a target that can be achieved.

May 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 ?
Have the cranks been specified in Arrow's standard grade of steel or anything better ?

Bring it to RS Combe again Rod.

I'd just love to see it accelerate for real on the S/F straight in real life.....

We'll need something exciting since Martin's broken the Escos

My crank was made & specified by Derek Kiddle Racing this company was taken over by Arrow.
They Specced it to be strong enough to take 1000bhp, it is not a lightweight racing crank but very robust.

I know one of the owners of Arrow and before Doug kiddie.
There are several options of steel and counter balance design which can be specified.

Was between Mark & DKR it was specced to be the strongest that could be achieved but not the lightest.
After the cracked block episode when one end of the crank broke away it was returned to Arrow & declared within new Spec tolerances & just polished a comment was made if it had been a f***d** crank it would have looked like a bannana after that .
It lost its rear support at 7.4k rpm (193mph) in 5th .

Yes & No .

The 800bhp engine had done 6k miles & developed a noise it was stripped for inspection & found to have bearing wear on 1 & 4 so Mark suggested going dry sump to help the oil system out a bit. The crank was sent to Arrow for a polish or a grind if it needed it, they found a crack at this Power level it needed to be sorted.

For the first time in a month i worked on the car today. Drilled the spare wheel well to take a Think Automotive braided hose grommet plate. Also started to sort the wiring in the boot because everything has moved around. Pleased with the progress but the pipes could not be fitted because neither Mark/Myself had a spanner or ajustable wrench big enough to fit the ends to the braided pipe so will look for a suitable spanner.
Dont know when i will carry on, Mark has asked me to finish the Saudi car & also another LHD Cossie. Must keep the lad happy so will finish those first. Im also refitting the en-suite which the Mrs tells me is more important than a couple of LHD Cossies so ive to steer a very diplomatic course for the next week or so .

I know of another car that has had the same problem with cracks in the crankshaft after doing a few top speed runs, under and over 200mph, it wasn't a arrow crank though.
