Hello people thought i would just add a few repairs and projects over the past few years of owning this monster. obviously i'm not going showing the original conversion as that was done a long time ago before i owned it, so i'll just add a few jobs on her. Originally Built By Severn Valley Motorsport.
head gasket went and cracked the head with it so another head is needed which i have got and its going on my car as we speak, unfortunately i will no longer be able to use my original rocker cover so i'm having to revert to the oldskool square rocker cover, you all know which one
so just keeping everyone updated with the build
this time i have invested in a mountune WRC head gasket 4 shims thick so that should last a while, new alloy rad was put in before head gasket blew, i'll add some photo's as it goes along, as long as the guy who's doing the work can be arsed he has took one but ive told him to take more as he goes along, unfortunaly i would take them but i'd have to travel to bolton to take them, pretty pointless to go all that way to get in the way and start taking piccys so i'm his capable hands
anyway here is the first pic, hopefully not the last
OFF WITH THE HEAD!!!
I'll keep you all posted as things progress
Update
hi people, just thought i'd give another update, still torn between rocker covers at the moment what colour, just trying to see if i can get one in blue lol
anyway another head went back on today so nearly there, piccy below

right guys sorry i haven't been on in a while but i still have been paying my membership even though i dont come online as much now so just to update on my last comment, obviously i had the head done last time we spoke, but unfortunately me being me decided i would take a supra to school on the motorway and topping out and ruining the whole lump
then obviously had to source a whole new engine, i managed to strike a deal with a well known respected ford cosworth engine builder dave pritchard, (nice guy), and aquired a whole new rebuilt lump with 1500 miles on it, the engine was ripped out of a escort cosworth running 500BHP specs are as follows.
standard bore 200 block, 7.5.1 low comp pistons, with valve cut-outs, fully ported gas flowed head 26mm inlet ports 25mm exhaust ports, isky valve springs, new guides outs, 6 long studs, copper ringed head gasket, inlet manifold trumpet part as its been ported to the head, 83lbs Siemens Injectors.
and colins lightened flywheel freshly skimmed.
also struck a deal on some 83lbs siemens injector and the live map ECU chip for the engine, by no other than motorsport developments (Blackpool).
also did some more mods on the care as there would be an increase in BHP so off came the standard intercooler and replaced with an Airtec 70mm full intercooler ( bigger than the rs500)
also went hydrolic clutch conversion as i was sick of snapping clutch cables, so far so good
starter motor also got replaced as it failed on me, motorfactors got the wrong one 3 times so had to recon my old unit,
well lets put a line under this one as i have more to tell lol hope you enjoy reading this.

anyway the car recently went back to geoff at CSG to be checked over as the car had developed a very strange ticking sound top end, so left it with him, big thanks to geoff for fitting me in at such short notice as you can see he had his hands full, but i dont trust anyone else
also asked him to also check why i was losing water as i thought a water pipe might have spung a leak.
so geoff got to work on looking for the elusive ticking noise and removed the rocker cover
all looks good right???
look closer
in case anyone missed it mine is the top one and the one at the bottom is a standard cam
seems a bit has sheared off and gone walkies in the engine somewhere
so geoff supplied me a replacement and then sent me a nice vid to cheer me up.
oh happy day nice easy fix or is it??

next the challenge was on to find the water leak, seems the water is escaping from the middle of the engine seeping out on the exhaust side, damn head gasket needs replacing.
so thought i would run it by mr pritchard who originally built the engine, unfortunately i can not fit a standard WRC gasket as the block has been machined for cooper rings. a common mod back in the day and still used by old skool motorsport engine builders, so off to source one of those,
nearly had a heart attack when i saw the price.. a mountune WRC gasket costs about Ł160, a cooper rings gasket from graham goode racing??? well see for yourself lol
http://shop.grahamgoode.com/coopers-...21-59442-p.asp
i nearly fell over. so back on to mr pritchard who put me on to an X mountune engineer who did work for ford when they were at the peak of the WRC in the 90's. he supplied the same gasket for a fraction of the price, good call mr pritchard
so after sobbing uncontrollably i gave geoff the go ahead to change the head gasket.
he the n proceeded to take the thing to bits, me being excited of course wanted to see what a good job mr pritchard had done and even more eager to see what pistons he used.
ive said it once and ill say it again Off With The Head!!!!!!
Obviously the gasket had seen better days so geoff got on with it and sent the head off to the machine shop to be skimmed. machine shop had to do a few repairs ie. Head required valves reseating and seals put back on as a few were not sealing properly and were passing oil. valve stems were fine, and a few helicoils were needed for the rocker cover bolts as a few of the holes were stripped.
anyway got the head back and proceeded to get the block prepared and cleaned ready for the head gasket.
as you can see under all that oil was a nicely built engine with some nice fully forged pistons with valve cut outs.
we then proceeded to put the long studs back in and fit the brand new cooper rings head gasket.
looking nice.
then the head was thrown back on and tightened up to all the correct tolerances.
after speaking to geoff we decided on chucking the old rocker cover as it looked crappy and him supplying me a more aesthetically pleasing cover pictured here.
i also had some blue piper cams vernier pulleys to just finish the engine off nicely to replace the red ones that were on it already.
so everything was slapped on and started for the first time, thats a good sign it starts.
It is ALIVE!!!!!!
well folks thats all i have at the moment but i'll drop in from time to time with other fixes and piccies.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!

I had the same problem with the cam, lost the turbo on EP's rollers due to the cam moving forward and wearing into the head causing alloy filings floating around the engine and blocking the pre turbo filter.
new turbo fitted and less than 100 miles later the cam locked and threw the cam belt taking 12 valves.......
So I'd say you was very lucky, best to find the broken bits though, before they do some damage!!!!! and I'd be inclined to check the oil pump too.
lovely car by the way good luck with it all

Thanks for the comments guys, yeah she really does shift, the bits were found in the head by the machine shop so really lucky there.
It's just the luck of the draw with cossies as I've found out lol
But it always makes up for it when she's running and brings a great big grin to my face when I'm out in it.

I doubt there are 2 Steve.
No one is stupid enough to do it again.
If you can find the article then I'll eat my hat
Oh and it's using the escort/sierra 4x4 floor plan.

Maybe a sr20det one was featured, never a ford cosworth one. A few piccys of it have popped up on here a few times that's why it rings a bell, plus a lot of people thought it was a myth lol

Wow a lot of people have seen it?????
If anyone who's seen it provide a link or proof I would be grateful as I can add it to the portfolio.
Would be nice to see it back in the day lol

Love this thing! one of my favourite things Geoff has owned! glad to see its being mothered!
Small things like fresh plates and a change of wheels would make this thing meg on the outside! nice to see a proper spec motor been used

I knew about it from years ago, it was the black old skool TSW rims that gave it away, i even went and stuck my head underneath it when it was parked there and saw the rear diff, the now ex-missus thought i was a bit weird
