hi mate, been keeping an eye on your thread for a quite a while, very interesting read.. im building a similar spec car myself, which eventually ill get round to doing a buildthread for. just got a quick question for you, its a little random, but where the rear control blade mounts to the chassis, what have you used for bushing mateial? as from the picture it appears not to be polyurethane. my rear toe and upper links are rose jointed, and i think i will do the same with the spring seat. i am woried about rose jointing the control blade mount though, as i am thinking that there may need to be some compliance in this joint. unfortunately i cant seem to find anybody who has done anything other than poly bushes for rear suspension on the focus

Marcus - i'm using Vibratechnics on the rear control blades. I'll let you know how they behave!

I'm trying to get the car up and running first on 'basic' handling upgrades and then can start to evolve and upgrade when back to back testing is possible.

Rightio! Updates!

Knocked up my oil return:

And got it fitted:

Then moved onto prepping the engine bay, first up was to wrap the selector cables in DEI gold and make a new heatshield out of Nimbus G2 for the power steering:

Bits of spare nimbus make for very good blanking plates!

Then it was on with brake line routing, mounting etc.

Oil lines got P Clipped in too:

Then time to fit a new slave cylinder in the gearbox:

And then...

Cheers guys!

Yes, the bonnet does clear, only by a fingers width or so!

I might yet have to fit bonnet raisers, but i'm trying to avoid it if I can

cheers for that will, had a quick look on vibratechnics they appear not to sell them, so dropped them an email, waiting for a response. yours is looking the business, especially now you got the engine in. looking forward to mine being at that stage, little way off yet though

Just a quick update as i've been in uni all day...

Earlier in the thread I said I was planning to use hardlines for my wastegate reference pipes given the proximity to the manifold etc.

So, tonight I got them done!

Shot from the top to show that they don't come any further forward than existing stuff, so clearance from the rad shouldn't be an issue:

With the air filter and things on to check clearances:

Hopefully over the next 3 days i'll make some more noticeable progress!

With the external gates are you not supposed to use plumb both sides of the diaphragm? Or you just going to let them bleed the air until necesary?

The only benefit of plumbing into the top of the gates is to counter the wastegate lifting early if the spring is weak. Mine are both sprung at 1 bar so shouldn't be an issue!

are you bending your own hardlines, if so what are you using for a tool? Also are there any disadvanatages to using them?

Yes, made my own hardlines. Tooling wise, I used a handheld forming tool, cost about Ł40 from memory, does 3 different size tubes up to 180 degrees. Also, there's a special flaring and deburring tool, that was a bit pricier, about Ł120 I think. And the hardline tube isn't cheap either

Anyhoo, did a bit more today

Got the slam panel back from the paintshop - there was NO WAY this was getting vinyl wrapped

Got the breather system finished:

I did want to go and have a mooch around the pit lane. A lot of good friends are running this year and it would have been nice to catch up, but, as the variable valve timing aspect of the engine is also my dissertation topic for uni, I can't really spare a day out at the moment. Hand in is 2 weeks away!

Cheers guys!

Pushing hard with it now - even though todays photos don't show a lot, there was a lot of final cleaning, thread checking and final fitting type stuff going on that wasn't really worthy of pictures!

Got my new thermostat housing through from Ricky this morning, needed a little bit of fettling to get the coolant temp sensor in (can't see it in this picture):
Name: 005-6.jpg
Views: 157
Size: 138.6 KB

Got the remaining lines made up - just need to get some universal silicone hose bits and some joiners now to finish my top hose off:
Name: 006-6.jpg
Views: 184
Size: 170.4 KB

Getting more built up:
Name: 010-6.jpg
Views: 156
Size: 129.0 KB

All covered up with slam panel lol:

Wow, never seen an ic lake thaton a car, only on a truck r a bus, its huge! Its gonna be a sweet ride! Is this the b&w turbo? Searched it online for how it works, but it aint exactly clear, but, it must spool up really fast? Make a film when you startup, i want to hear the beast!
