mk2 escort, now with nissan turbo power!!
well, its been 3 years in the making and my car is nearly finished so i thought id start a thread on its resto, wont go into the really boring details but ill pop up the more interesting pics. a few of you may have seen this car at the scotch corner meets organised by glenny_boy, anyways, heres some pics and a brief run down of whats happened and where its at so far. hope you enjoy.
so i started off with a rusty wing, which turned into a full resto, no cut corners, i dont have a lot of money so its been a case of 2 jobs and saving where i can, hence why its taken so long.
ill let the pics do the talking...
(if any mod thinks im playing "rape the bandwidth" let me know plz)
inner wing
spare wheel well
nearside inner sill.
pulling old rusty front panel off.
the engine bay was in need of the most work, years of oil n coolant leaking had fooked it all, so back to bare metal it is.
this pic shows how well the bay came up after hours of work with a drill n abrasive wheel.
this is the running gear, jus old n tired, shot blasted and painted with polly bushes, new gaskets, seals, bearings etc where needed. all nuts n bolts have been replaced with stainless steel items.
the fronts been treated to adjustable coilovers and will be getting HI-SPEC discs, calipers etc. (so ignore the rusty old ones)
ill post more pics when i get a free minute, 82 hour weeks arent too kind for surfing the net,

certainly did, got the kits from rally design, stripped the struts, including the inserts, then took them down to bare metal and had the threaded struts welded on, had to have the aluminium top caps machined ever so slightly for a perfect fit, and they work a treat.

his is the view of the floorpan, 99% solid, but you can see what sections have been cut out to be replaced
but the more important thing is.......we have colour! after 3 years of a bare shell its almost done, heres the colour.
A pillar
rear of front panel that needs welding onto car.
engine bay!! sexy, ha

ill bang some pics up of the engine soon too, thats had just as much attention and money on it, 1660 xflow, kent 234 cam, stage 2 head with new valves, ported, gas flowed etc, kawasaki zx750 carbs, H&H sports pack ignition, duplex chain etc etc, built with stainless steel nuts n bolts and painted a nice subtle gloss black. pics to follow. but heres a teaser, still needs a few things tweaking but the general ideas there.

Ill be more than happy to take you dude, think the only time you've seen it properly shift was when you were behind me in your cossie at the roundabout near the civic, there was a middle aged cock in a mazda mx5 on the inside of me? Bet you can't remember, ha. We're too old now, haha.

right, its been a while so thought id pop a few pics of the very final stages, been busy moving house and losing the garage i built etc, but now i can concentrate on this, 1st few pics show the gloss black base coat we put on to check for any imperfections, there were only a few so thats now been flattened off, as per the pics with the new wheels, which i think will look amazing with the purple and chrome, whoop. enjoy.
then the wheels, starmag 2's, this is the 1st set of new alloys ive bought in over 8 years, and the only set other than 4 spokes ive had on this car, proper 70's retro,
how far the old wheels filled out the arches....
and the new wheels, far better...
but the best bit....how nice do they look??? whoop whoop, haha.
will get follow up pics once in colour in a week or so.

that was my thought big lad, black and chrome, hhhmmmmm, but then i cant resist that MANLY purple, haha, and yeah i remember that round about too, you were behind me in your saph and an old fart with a bald patch and the roof down in an MX5 pulled up next to me then tried to cut me up, haha, i can still remember you and your mates manic laugh out your windows as the old boy looked a little bewildered at the smoke off my tyres as i shot round the outside, haha, aaahhh, those were the days.

and finally its home!! WHOOP! its been in the bodyshop for 3yrs 10 months, put the handles, bumpers, mirrors on along with the new wheels, i couldnt wait to see how the wheels set the purple off....and needless to say i think it looks AWESOME!!! should be a few weeks to get it all built and hopefully on the road, ven if its just for a week to get some miles on the fresh engine, so come on ladies and gents, your thoughts? (i have seen the "honesty" of passionford so im prepared, haha)
the new wheels are 7j, my old ones were 6j, so they fill the arches alot more.
and i have to say the machine finish against the purple is superb
and luckily the 9 month old puppy decieds he prefers sitting under it than scratching down the side with his claws, haha
he's actually called "spanner", but its the wrong size spanner for the diff nuts, haha.......

Its fords velvet purple but they laid a black undercoat this time instead of the usual light grey so its come out a little darker than last time which im very pleased with, its not "in your face purple" but does still catch your eye well, specially when the metalic catches the sun, my gf says it "sparkles", bloody women always making things sound gay, haha.
