Default £200 mk4 escort build

Hi, my names dan iam 20years old (chesney is my nickname) decided i wanted a ford as my next car, ive had alsorts of cars but not a ford....

anyways about the car.

as title says i gave £200 for it, 1.3 populor poverty spec for the win lol, test runs out end of december and has no tax. arches had bubbled up and had surface rust, dent on the bonnet, exhaust is blowing abit aswell.

some pictures as it was when i brought it:

brought some alley cat rallyes for it same as these...

also de-rusted one side... and started satin blacking the car

will update as i go along, carnt fit the wheels until my new studs turn up, also gonna buy some 70/80mm springs.

dan

had coilovers before, cost to much and tbh i didnt really notice much improvement over a good shock and spring set-up

abit out of my price range, i dont want to spend alot of money onit if iam honest. but i was thinking uprated shocks because i bet the standard ones are abit worn... hmmm ive got another car that i need to shift so i should have abit more cash when its sold. receros are on my list aswell

no not had koni's or gaz ones, had kyb gas shocks, g-max, and bilsteins.

its only a 1.3 escort, its not like its gonna get driven fast anyway. so aint too fussed about handling, dont want it to be really bumpy ither as i live in a village, thats up in the hills and the roads are all rough and bumpy.

I'm looking to start something like this soon it's a 1.6 ghia tho, I must admit I do think it's a good idea to upgrade the shocks with the spring's as standard shocks where never built for thar specific hieght an load.

I have always used coilovers as you can get the handling and look spot on... any way good luck I will keep my eye's on this thread.

I must admit I once drove an Escort mk4 with old none adjustable gaz shocks and lowering springs and was no better than standard shocks IMO. Go drive one with newish koni, spax or avo adjustables and I think you will be pleasantly surprised mate

Looks a good little project so all the best with it

what ever you do don't get gmax springs n dampers. i have them as they came with the car and i'd probs have a softer ride with a metal bar welded in trust me they are stiff or if u lower if have high profiles

gaz shocks are oil dampened and spax are air dampened i dunno about koni. but sometimes you have to play around with gaz dampers to make them work properly i have adjustable one's on the rear of the capri and they are brilliant for the price

You're goanna have to cut springs, get custom ones, or go for coilovers if you want -80mm. Just won't get them off the shelf.
