Default The shed Project

Hi everyone
Ok had this Mk1 escort sat up drive for over 7year's been used as a shed to store junk, hence shed project.
was going to put cossie engine in it ,but decided to put subaru ej20 in instead. the wrx's run 260-275bhp standard ,so i am on to a winner straght away and can be pushed to 340-350bhp on standard internals, but this is going to have a 2004 v7/8 sti engine witch will run low 400's on standard internals easly .
i am going to lock up c/diff and run it reawheeldrive .
plan is to keep it as close to Mk1 looks and handling as possible here's
what i have done sofar.

the Mk1

have cut out tunnel and replaced front floor pans

used mokeup ej20+g/box(thanks wayne) just caseing so much lighter for messing about with,
engine and g/box is in car had to cut out front inner wing's and widend and box chassi ,made engine cradle to hold engine witch is only tacked at moment needs a lot more work yet.
also started on makeing exaust header's also only tacked

removed gearbox tunnel support welded in mount for subaru gear linkage

started on gearbox mount today and finished

in car

also started to mockup gearbox tunnel will try to finish this week

ok thanks everyone for your intrest
here's update decided to finish crossmember and engine cradle
also moved engine back a inch to try and get bit more space at
front for radiator ,very tight up there.
found another crossmember in the shed better condition than the other rusty thing.
cut off escort engine mounts and made plates to weld over hole and
stiffen up crossmember

welded up

then welded engine cradle

put crossmember back on car and lined up and tacked engine cradle to crossmember,
then removed again and welded up hole thing to gether ,sprayed to stop rust for now.

and fixed back on escort

thank's again for all your interest here's another update,
ok got the subaru gear linkage and shoreted it 100mm,
so the gearstick isen't sat where the handbrake is,subaru linkage has 2x bar's one fixes to the side of gearbox to steady gearstick the other fixes to gear selector on gearbox so shorten both by 100mm,
the rear gearlinkage mount i made before was a f**king wast of time, propshaft hits on it ,
so have made a new one that sit's higher up on the tunnel.

made and shaped new bit of tunnel to go round gearstick and welded in the hole tunnel
to car

also made a propshaft out of the subaru prop and escort prop ,will get it ballanced later
still got to make mount's to hold the split prop mount up, get pic's tomorrow

Top work mate, its nice to you see realy hard work done! you got skills, as some just take the easy route and just use the floor-pan and running gear, to me the ANT'' skills! thats cheating...

Is there much rot in the shell? Looks like it was pretty neglected! Would love to find an old MK1/2 like that to play with!

I must say, I'd sooner see it with an old skool NA engine in it, but fair play, it should go well, and that engine should keep the centre of gravity well down!

there was alot of rust in front floor pans where window was leaking ,have replaced them as you can see, rear of the car underneath is covered in diff oil very bad leak which as kept shell in mint condiiton at back ,chassey is solid as a rock ,had car on road for over 5years with 1700 xflow in it ,then it just sat for year's untill now

thats why impreza's handle so well with the flat-4 engine low centre of gravity and very light all alloy, still own 2x impreza's ,love them.
but Mk1 escort alway's been my first love have owned over 38 of them

ok here's some more pic's managed to quite bit of work to the shed this week

finished inside of car for now anyway .welded in impreza seat crossmembers now impreza seat's bolt straight in on subaru runners

fabricated new inner wings with holes to remove sparkplugs from under wing's with alloy cover's

finished mokingup/tacking up tubular headers and
started to fit cossey intercooler and radiator very tight impreza rad is way to high just hope cossey rad will cool it ok.
the water pipes are in wrong place for impreza engine so probably buy
alloy rad and get pipes moved a rewelded unless can find some think else,
cossey intercooler will limit me to 300bhp ok for now
