90 spec mercury grey rs turbo project
Hello there, I'm chris and im fairly new to this forum, I am mainly a vauxhall man and have done many 2.0 16v conversions on novas and corsas but i thought it was time for a change. I bought this escort in july off of a local chap, it has been in his garage for 2 years after the engine developed a knock it turns out that it has spun shells on number 2 and 3 big ends so the engine is now out and being rebuilt, reground crank and bearings to suit and basically a full freshen up including a new oil pump, stem seals etc.
Anyways here are some pics...
Apologies for the rubbish pictures blackberry cameras are rubbish! anyway, getting the engine apart revealed that the head has been nicely flowed, so has the injector rail and inlet manifold, it has got a kent cvh34 cam fitted and I have ordered a vernier pulley for it, I believe the ecu has been chipped too and it has got a full ancillary, coolant and boost hose kit from roose motorsport
More pics...
Block painted
polished charge carrier and newly painted cam cover.
The ecu chip
Unfortunatly there are a few holes in the floor and a bit of snot near the battery tray but nothing too major so plans are to get it welded up, get it running, somehow sort the abs out and get it mot'd next spring.
More pics coming when i have time.

Been a while since I've posted any progress on here, Car is running, nearly ready for its MOT just tidying up some loose ends!
Heres some pics of the build so far.
Pic of the bottom end, Just fitted a set of wossner pistons and pec rods
ARP head studs fitted, Engine is taking shape
Head on with CVH 35 cam and blue pulley
Looks like an engine now
All ready to go in
It's in!
End result
Got her running with a nice tap from the top end, can you see the problem?? cheap nasty lifters!
Bit of tinkering wrapped the down pipe
When i finally managed to drive the car i found the clutch unbearable! it was right at the bottom of the pedal and very jerky! So I changed the origional pedal and quadrant for and adjustable one, Its made a bit of a difference, was not the easiest job in the world to do mind you!
Heres some pics
This is pretty much how its sitting at the moment, need a new header tank and i keep making a few improvements to it, Hopefully it will be on the road this summer
final few pics thanks for looking.

Looks a good base to start with. Try to keep it near standard looking as possible, they're rising in value every year. Spots and ambers look the part.
Are you looking at getting the engine bay decals to replace the ones missing?
Have a look at YWK parts, they're an online store that sell many small bits that would really make the car stand out(IE genuine clips, screws, bolts and gaskets)
DMB graphics sell the usual dealership re manufactured number plates, rear screen sticker and tax disc holder, plus many stickers such as the keycode radio and alarm sticker that were stuck on the door windows.
Ebay usually has the genuine mudflaps and headlight protectors. End of the day your choice.

Cheers guys I'm aiming for it to look reasonably original I've already got the under bonnet graphics but I'm waiting to have the slam panel sprayed before I put them on. I have still got a couple of novas and a couple of c20xe engines laying around, I just fancied a change and this escort turned up and it keeps me busy and I'm growing a bit attached to it to be honest!

Thanks buddy! Isn't it funny how I've insured the car and now it starts playing up Coolant gauge never goes above 90 yet I've just parked the car up and stopped it, undone the bonnet to find water peeing out of a crack in the header tank and shed loads of air coming from the expansion pipe on the thermostat housing I've ordered a cool running thermostat and going to source another header tank for it, I was going to take it for a MOT today but never mind.
