My Ford Focus Zetec project :)
hey guys my names Nathaniel i live in ipswich and am 21 years old with a 2 year old son (JJ) and a wonderful partner Sophie. Before the focus we had a fiesta mk3 1.3 powerhouse that had been hit in near enough every corner, anyway in the end i had, had enough of it after the exhaust feel off again and the engine stopped starting (boot leaked also so buggy was gettin soaked)
So the gf found this focus, money exchanged hands and we came home with it (825 quid lighter )
Now please note i am a student so money is a bit (very tight) with living in a flat etc lol so mods might not come in expensive ways (like st170 engine n box lol) but cheapish ways just to improve a already nice car
Heres some pictures when we got it, needed a clean so went to a bp garage to clean it (i do normally do it by hand but a pressure washer is nice to get crud from up under the archs extra.
Pink makes my miss's wink lol
After a good clean i was keen to get stuck in to make it look better, so off came the rear wheels as the drums was very rusty and in need of being painted
Out came my angle grinder with a wish brush attachment
and then 1 coat of black hamerate (spelling??)
The inside of the rear wheels have not been cleaned in a while me thinks lol
a bit of wonder wheels, some water and a sponge not bad that will do
Next up was smoked "Depo" front indicators
Then my argos universal air filter for 20 pounds that fits very good on the hose, all it needs now is perhaps some heat sheild, and a pipe to allow cold air to get to it very nice roar mind you
thats it for now people watch this space

yes mate tomorrow/todays job give that engine bare a good clean maybe paint some more rusty bits if i find anything
its a daily drive so at the moment not to much planned for it but some bits i wanna do are.
Full leather seats ( and heated front if i can find some)
St 170 headlights (mayb st170 fogs as well)
tinted tail lights + tinted rear fogs
tinted windows (rear windows)
some decent sound, double din head unit, 10 inch sub n amp in boot but still enough room for the buggy
De badged
st170 front brakes and rear disk conversion
Interior lights changed to blue leds (anything that lights up with the lights)
backbox
maybe some different wheels
40mm lowering kit springs and dampers renew some bush's
just a general tidy up and make it look smart really lol
think thats everything perhaps one day a zetec turbo conversion when the insurance allows it

Well i reakon its time for a bit of a update
So its been 20k miles since it was last serviced so decided it was time i done the oil and oil filter for piece of mind
(note to self should invest in some axle stands)
Oil filter fitted
Oil filled checked, engine ran up to normal temp, checked engine cooled down and rechecked. Leaks checked and any spillage cleaned up, Then just as i went to shut the bonnet i noticed underneath the bonnet was black! i had the garage open and a spare 30 mins so decided to give it a quick wash over (not like i would do on the outside) just to give it a bit of a clean
clean engine bay
another shot of underneath the bonnet
Next up was the zetec badge and look what it left behind some nasty poo!
thats better all gone
Also took of some glue left over from some racing stripes down the side looks 100x better now
debaged the rear
Then mr postman dropped off a little sticker
Next up is smoked side indicators and sorting out some ice and a fb stealth subwoofer box

Tiny update with some questions
My idle has been playing up and after reading on the fourms i thought it was the idle control valve i have changed this for another one (the guy said it was in good working order) but my revs still drop off quickly (sometimes stalling the motor) So if am coming to a round about change from 3rd to 2nd to slow down and then to 1st sometimes it will stall. Even when it is at idle you can still hear the induction kit suckin in for a split second then you cant hear it then you can...
Sorry if it seems like a story but its a bit annoying as i been trying to fix it. Also another question is at the end of the idle control valve there is a hex bolt type screw what happens when you turn this? is this an adjustment of some sort?
Any pictures of it anyway excuse the harsh harmaite on it it was in the dark and i just wantted it done lol
Also next week going up north (manchester area) to see miss's side of family so will be nice to take the focus on a long drive and see how it copes being as i do see the focus as a "family car"
I have also brought a fiberglass kit from halfrauds (i will also buy extra tissue, resin harder etc.. I brought this to begin my stealth subwoofer box i saw a fella focus person on ffoc.co.uk do. Shouldnt be to hard to and will defo get some respectful bass in the boot from the 10 inch subwoofer (possibly pioneer i quite like them)
And my final list of questions if i was to do a 1.8 zetec turbo engine,
What gearbox do you use for a focus? Could it be standard with only 250 bhp running from it (thats my target nice quick family motor )
I seen some people use a rover manifold i believe, how ever am now thinking if i could find a focus mk1 rs exhaust manifold and inlet manifold throttle bodies injectors etc would the focus mk1 rs stuff fit onto the 1.8 engine as its basicly the same size as the 2.0 i believe?
Also i see a lot of people go for omex managment i have no idea about how it works or anything at the moment i am a very dab hand on the computer though and that sort of thing (i am a ICT geek lol) so how hard is it to program yourself? perhaps even mapping myself or would you get someone else to do it?
What spec turbo do i need for a nice well driven 250bhp with torque to match? i dont want to wait round for it i want it right there when i need it.
thanks guys

hey guys little update managed to get a double din dvd headunit and fitted it (litte bit of hacking the dash apart to make it fit lol)
also picking up a vauxhall corsa (i know some of you may not like it lol) and planning to build a 2.0 turbo for track days so this project will be very slow now just a matter of fitting some pieces and tidying it up
