Default Diy Wheel refurb + some bad news

Heres a few pictures of 1 of my 3 door wheels that i've been working hard on, You can see the state the wheel was in and the finished wheel to compare. I didnt want a diamond cut finish and so polished the wheel and etch lacquered on top.

Just like to say that you dont need to grind down the ford emblem in the centre cap when they get refurbed and you can paint the surround and highlight the emblem too.!!!

heres before

Don't ask how long the one wheel took lol,

My cossie was smoking recently and upon taking the head off i found the valve stem seals to be the reason for the smoking, although I also found this little booooger !!!
I was lucky it didnt damage the turbo/head or block,it did scratch the bore but just gonna pop a new piston in and it will run again,
Earlier in the year i burnt a spark plug out on number 1 cylinder, the culprit was a faulty injector and so i got them cleaned and flow tested, took them over 10 times to get them right !!! so this is the damage you see due to that.

Good job on wheels! Would be better if you did just the inside of the ford badge red and the outside black, stands out a bit too much IMO!

thanks , I see what you mean so it'd be a little red ford emblem on a black background.
I was going to do them blue on the next centre cap i'll try the ford emblem and compare them. Haven't been on here for ages have you got your sapph on the road yet?

.

I've just bought a set of those wheels for my RWD S2, they need to be referb'd to. Did you put anything on the polised part before paint to make it easier to remove the unwanted painted part.

yeah I carefully used carnuba wax on a bud stick, making sure it didnt go inbetween the spokes, etc. Using etch primer on the whole wheel first, followed by spraying the 2 pak paint i took the masking tape off after about 3-4 hours ( when paint is dry but still slightly tack). Then I used thinners and a rag/slightly abrasive but thin so as to carefully wipe off the 2 pak paint, without buggering up the edges of the spokes where the paint might chip off.. Once the paint was looking right i used etch lacquer at a ratio 4:1 and sprayed over the polished alloy and paint to seal the lot.
