Hiya mate, yeah it's currently with Mark Shead at MA Developments to have the engine loom done and to be mapped. Hopefully I will get it back ready to drive soon...
Will update the thread when I get it back

Cheers

Yeah...hopefully it's worth the wait. It's nearly one cylinder for each year I've been building it, so yeah might have to start looking for the 6 cylinder engine soon.

Should be just over 300 and the car weighs 800kg, so should be exciting.

Tiny update, but more me just getting excited.
Spoke to Mark at the beginning of December, hopefully will be getting the car back February ish.

I brought these this month in anticipation, (a Christmas present to myself pretty much.)
New 3J driveline 18t shalfs and NXG lsd, hopefully will last a while. If they fail il up rate the axle to a ford 9"
Also a 3.54 tranx cwp, will build this up in a new axle casing so i can just swap straight over.

Also ordered this AP Brake kit for the fronts, in the event that it actually runs i will have to stop it.

Haha I don't think it was that long ago, that was my dads phone.
I did find my old iPhone 3 and there are photos on there also found an even earlier Samsung flip phone which had photos from when I originally brought the car.

No updates on the 100e just yet, although i did speak to Mark a couple of weeks ago and he's on the case

In the mean time the Caterham has been making the most of the nice weather. Still miss being out in a classic though.

2 years to make a loom for a car that has little more than seats and a steering wheel (literally it doesnt even have seat belts!) is unbelievable, hope he's doing it for free.

lucky you are so chilled out mart!

Right then, time for an overdue update.

I finally got the car back from Mark in October 2018, he done all the engine loom and got it to a stage where it was running, but i had a lot of things to address before he maps it. I drove the car about 10 meters, into the garage, (the first time in 9 years), got it up on stands where it has been since.

I have spent the last few months going over the car front to back, sorting out a lot of issues i wasnt happy with, most that i did from when i was a younger and now could do better and just niggles that we found.

First up, the car was leaking oil, alot of oil! It was like a dog leaving its mark around Marks workshop floor. Upon further inspection it was leaking in two locations, this was found to be the sump pan which was so warped, this would have been from when it was welded together, and the remote oil filter which turned out to be a sealing washer. I got the sump pan skimmed and relocated the remote oil filter from under the car to the engine bay. I have also started to replace all the fuel lines and engine bay oil lines with the ProGold BMRS range of hose.

Next up was the water rail, i was never happy with how i originally plumbed it up, so i made/modified up a new one and had it zinc coated. I actually bought a complete engine for a few hundred quid, sold loads of bits off it got my money back and still have the bare engine, turbo and few spares. This came in handy when mocking up the water rail as i could do it all out the car.

Next up, the dry sump pump. I needed to change the pulley on the dry sump pump to a bigger one to change the ratio as the one fitted was too small and pushing the pump to its limit at low engine rpm. A simple job you may think but no, the new pulley was a different offset to the old one so the whole pump needed to come forward inline with the crank pulley, this needed then a new bracket, i made this in the garage using the spare engine which again came in handy.

Whilst i was doing this i replaced the front crank pulley for a lightweight item.

Right so whilst dealing with the front end i changed the front suspension over from the 2.5" Gaz gold legs which were too big for the car really as they rubbed on the top mounts to 2.25" Gaz mk2 escort legs. With this came adjustable track control arms, double anti roll bar and billet steering arm, alloy hubs, oh and some tasty AP brakes to help stop.

Got lock?! dont worry tyres have been replaced.

Also got fed up of all the alloy bits in the engine bay so got the powder coated a nice black

With the front end pretty much together i moved on to the rear. I had already bought 3J diff and drive shafts years ago ready to fit. Ive fitted them for now but these probably wont hold up to the torque when fully mapped so will have to go easy on these until i fit an atlas or 9 inch axle.

Moving inside the car, again i wasnt happy with the layout in the boot so relocated the fuel pumps, swirl pot and filter, and this is all being re plumbed with the ProGold hose and fittings thanks to Proline Motorsport.

Whilst having the oil lines remade, it was decided that the oil cooler was in a pretty poor location for air flow for the intercooler so i mananged to mount it the other way round and lower down.

It was also decided that the need for the oil stat with the dry sump system wasnt really required so i removed that from the car.

When Mark was setting the car up, we found out the that oil and fuel pressure sensors i fitted were crap. I sourced the ones Mark recommended and fitted them along with a remote oil sensor hose.

New ProGold fittings on the pressure side of the oil system.

So when i picked the car up from Mark, i released i hated the driving position, and there was the issue no one else could fit in it. Again i was young when i first started putting this together so i grew and got old.
I made some new brackets to raise the seat up and move it back to a more comfortable position but then had the issue of the roll cage resting against my head. so out with the roll cage.

I will get another one but it will be a fully custom welded in one but that is for another time. For now i just need to make a rear 'strut brace' to attach the harnesses. This will bolt into the old roll cage mounting holes.
