Default crystal blue cosworth resto update 15.10.2011

brought this off rs tingle back in april to reshell my sapph. ive robbed the photos from his original thread with his consent and promised to restart the resto thread and keep it up to date as i go along........ things may go a little slow from time to time due to lack of funds or other on going projects time for some pictures

im not gonna take any credit for this work as rs tingle has done a cracking job up to this point updates will come as things get done )

hopefully next weekend should see the inside painted again.

little bit of an update
got back from 2 weeks in turkey with a fresh head and decided it was time to get some color on the inside of her. we spent most of saturday preparing the floors and cleaning & treating the odd little rust spot we came across then reapplied seam sealer again very happy with the outcome seems a pity that its going to be covered with interior....

removed the doors again for better access

back to front view

were rust bubbles were found and treated

masking up to stop the dreaded overspray in the engine bay

and covered just to make sure

on goes the base )

2 and a half liters went down in there then it was left to flash off then on with the lacquer

gotta love lacquer overspray glad i had a mask on

and back to front view again

next bits to be painted are door shuts boot and bonnet shuts then its ready for the booth when ive saved more of my hard earned lol.

Managed to strip the loom out my old shell yesterday and get it fed into the new one and a good 80% of the way fitted up :0) bloody big task and two major jobs done in one week end I'm over the moon. More painting to be done now before dash goes in. Also removed screen as it was knackered so gonna get some paint around the shell there too before new one goes in. Shall put photos up tonight :0)

Talking

photos of the loom coming out and going in )

didnt look to bad at this stage

then we was having second thoughts

got stuck back into it after a cuppa and tapped it up so it went in nicely not to scratch paint

there we go one fuse box in ) if only it was that simple lol inside is a mess not for the faint hearted

eeeeeerrrrrrmmmmm it dont look like that in the wiring diagram

after a few hours though it started taking shape again a job i wont be tackling again in a hurry........

not had much of a update recently as not had much done lol poor weather last weekend and a few other things going on......
so today fathers day!!! of i went out side with my little girl and removed the fuel lines and front to rear brake pipes. i set fern (my daughter) on cleaning the fuel lines up with some scotch brite as they were in pretty good nick once she had done that we painted them up and then she was bored and went inside lol... i then set to the task of making up the new front to rear brake pipe turned out quite nice but forgot to take photos as id got stuck into it.
then i fitted the cleaned and painted pipes along with the new brake pipe to the new shell along with new clips was going to call it a day at this point but decided id start removing a few brackets from the engine bay for shot blasting before i knew it id shot blasted etch primed base coated and lacquered them so was impressed

fern helping out

pipes all in situe

strutt tops, map sensor, abs block, p.a.s, coil brackets and ign amp plate shot blasted

colour ive chosen

how the two look together

im impressed with the colour ive chosen think it goes really well more to come soon

had a manic weekend managed to get my old sapph stripped down to more or less the bare bones and got some more blasting done....
also managed to find a bloke willing to help locate obscure plastic clips and ties ect ect for under bonnet and under car fuel and brake lines at bloody good prices too.... he really goes out his way to help you if you cant give him a part number describe the part and he sends photos asking if hes got it rite his names graham and his number is 01914272186 web site is carpartsexpress.co.uk/
also got 4x4 rear discs today and ordering new tank fuel tomorrow then on with more painting

been a little quiet recently good reason for this ive been busy :0) lol.....
purchased a new tank sadly a pattern part but hey it has the swirl pot holds fuel aint rust so it will do the job nicely..... painted it up in gloss white just been waiting on the stainless strap coming so i could fit it cheers to wayne for making me that looks awesome )...
brought the 4x4 rear discs just in the process of blasting the rear calipers and giving them a lick of paint.
fitted some of the under body clips sorted the back end of the loom out re-tapped it so it all looks neat and tidy again and refitted it.
had a monster day on sunday did the slam panel scuttle panel and bonnet shut area on the wings to say i was impressed with finish from a cheap nasty gun was an understatement my mate nearly ended up with a huge kiss lol.....
next things to attack is some bolting up then some more painting )

tank in silver

better in white lol

back to bare metal

same this side

dam corrosion in windscreen area what a cow to get out all gone and treated now though

ready for paint

on with the etch

basecoat

and finally lacquer

example of finish
and demasked

Adam the wiring loom ain't as daunting as it looks mate..... get a roll of masking tape label every thing and take photos of how and were wires run. Me and my mate stripped the loom out and had it in the new shell in a day. At that we had the interior and dash to remove from my old car

Just picked up all new bolts to mount the diff. So that's on the cards for tonight and putting driveshafts back together and refitting those too.
