I started to develope a Focus RS mk2 a while ago.
This is where I have got to today.

Graph from today. Just on its base map and 22psi
Large bore Jamsport turbo to intercooler pipe.
Fabricated 3inch dowmpipe.
Big turbo.
Plenty more to follow.

Well, shit happens.
Driving home the other night, flat chat 6th gear pulling hard, when there was an explosion!!!!!!!!!! followed by a huge smoke plume.
I coasted to a stop (engine still idalling) with smoke billowing from under the bonnet and out the exhaust. Switched off and opened the bonnet and there were flames all over the back of the engine.
I got my bottle of water, 0.5l of Volvic and continued to put the flames out, which I did, but then burst back into flames again! the final dregs of the bottle put it out finally. I was crapping my pants as I was now out of water!! Hoping it was not going to ignite again, but it didnt.
Back at the workshop we could see that the turbo had expelled it turbine wheel at the 2.0 bar boost pressure it was running at the time. The wheel had smashed a large hole in the down pipe and put 3 further dents in the exhaust pipe (huge kenetic energy). So the turbo continued to pump oil into the enhaust which was red hot and ignited it . The rubber fuel line was seconds from burning through (its well chared and chrispy).
Close one, me thinks!

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Hi Simon Try not to get too fed up about this, you are pushing things and if they don't break you'll never know where the limit is. If it was easy we'd all be at it. good luck. like the no. plate.

Here are some pics of the down pipe, it looks like it has put over 5 dents in different locations.
My turbo supplier has said upon inspection of the turbo that it has flowen appart due to overspeeding. Its a T03-T04 stage 3.
Simon.
