right finally starting a resto thread. bought it last summer as a bit of a project and to basically have some fun. first mod included a proper pedal box which came with 3 unmarked master cylinders one of which proved to be faulty and brake pedal went to the floor leaving only rear brakes, so had a wee 'off' at oulton park!! so heres a few pics of the winter re build! initial plans were to make a pukka wiring loom as it was unbelievably messy! new brakes all round changeing to solid disks as the wheels kept locking up under heavy brakeing, swap to 13'' wheels, change diff ratio and replace as many of the alloy panels as i could afford with carbon kevlar and rose joint all the suspension to allow for some proper adjustment.
firstly a few pics of the car when i bought it

pedal box is back in using new wilwood masters with integral reservoirs as my old ones were external and looked a little messy also theres less chance of any leaks. mounted it on a piece of 3mm steel welded either side to stop some of the flex when brakeing hard
front suspensions back on re built and both shocks balanced will change to ohlins or similar in the future but just concentrating on getting it back on the road for now! rockers were a nightmare to re fit!
decided to change the colour half way through aswel to frozen white should look amazing with alll the yellow carbon kevlar! all the n/s panel was smashed up so was replaced and holes re cut etc
couple of the loom and new rose jointed arms the quality really is very good! would of used aerotube tho personally but the option wasnt there at the time!

fuel surge was a massive problem last year even round small rounabouts so was toying with swirl pots, using a second outlet and foam but went for foam as its only on carbs and im trying to keep weight to an absolute minimum so i started by opening the top up
filled with tank foam and a low level fuel sender which will just turn a light on rather than a sender and guage
i made a top out of plastic and a seal from an old car innertube with 2 bolts through for the switch wires. after it was finished i blanked of the breather and outlet and smoke tested it to make sure it didnt leak and was perfect! admitidly not the fuels reacted and swelled the top up so will have to have a re think on that one!!!

the steering arms ended up like banannas after the crash so they were replaced and steering rack was stripped and checked as there was a tight spot which turned out to just be a couple of burs on the rack so just cleaned it up with a file!
first time it had been rolling in a while felt like a milestone had been reached!!!
as said all the brakes were being replaced using solid disks the fronts were a streight swap and the rears not lol!! wasnt too bad a job actually and the weight difference is ridiculous! only downside is haveing no handbrake but its not too much of an issue! il just carry a couple of bricks round with me lol!
behind the new caterham r500 13's 8x13 on the rear and 6x13 on the front with a048 soft tires all round

after collecting some more of the panels up from my brothers (cossie stevo on here) had a late on in the garage fitting them up. this really is the difference between a good and bad painter they dont need flatting or buffing theyre out of the gun just want a polish. the paints soo smooth over the moon with them !!!!! only problem is you cant look at them in the sunlight the whites that bright haha

few pics of the rad mounts and ive converted the cable clutch to hydraulic as it was so hard to control and couldnt launch it at all. youve got to slip the clutch with these things and it was on or off so have alot of adjustment now. both made from prepreg carbon and carbon angle bonded together again the weight difference between the old steel brackets is huuuuge!!
ive used a slave of a pulsar gtir after looking at loads of different ones and this seemed perfect in cylinder size etc although being cast its a bit weighty!! and a rose joined end attached to the original arm

ok you could call yesterday the day of disasters!! fired it up in the morning planning on a test drive and it would idle but not rev over 3k with out stalling. went through wiring and everything 3 times had the carbs in bits etc etc cos it was like it was over fueling to death! eneded up trying to run it out of a jerry can (couldnt see how the fuel had gone off in that time) drained the carbs and it ran mint!!!!! so drained some off the tank and was a water mix! from when id cleaned the foam!
eventually managed a test drive down the alley (sat on a bucket)!! and the clutch slave over exerted itself and snapped the end off the clutch arm and rod so going to have to make a stop for that and put a strong spring on it so it returns properly

well decided to cut the number plate down and got some tacky carbon effect led lights which actually look ok! but with the seats ive bought 15 sqm of carbon kevlar fabric so mite use them as moulds and make some real ones! along with the diffuser as it weighs a ton!
also going to recess the diffuser up into the rear of the car so its raised right up what do you think ???
finally finished the dash off had to fibreglass all the old wholes up and paint it which was a shame because it was carbon but looks ok may make a new one in the future
everythings completely finished under the back now all cabletied up very happy with the way it looks! just needs a wash!
also forgot to add the diff is now a plated item using a 3.14 cwp which i had to buy from poland! out of a 2.3 diesel sierra i think took some finding anyway! hopefully il just about have enough power to use it properly
random horn pic!

quick update with the new dash! managed to get a stack 8100 cheap with lap timer so started by fibreglassing the old hole up, cutting out filling and covering in carbon effect wrap. bit of a pity really as its real carbon underneath!!
hadnt thought about the 4 switched needed when i re did the dash so just mounted them in some carbon angle under the wheel stil perfectly accessable!

few more pics of the builds progress, hope you like! few arty shots with the new decals before the strip down again!
extinguisher and power cuts required for hillclimbing and racing
got some real carbon kev and made some stone guards as the arches were getting a little tatty and chipped!
and this is where the fun starts again decided to swap the stack for a race technology dash which will plug streight into the new ecu when i eventually decide on which im going to use! and a fully electronic paddle shift kit with flat shift and autoblip.
mounted the 4 buttons in some carbon on the wheel for the dash functions and used a microphone cord which will plug into the dash next to the plug for the paddles so the wheel is fully removable
remade the dash (again)!! and recovered
with the sequential shift lights lit mega bright!
made a carbon panel for behind the dash which will mount the 2 ecus for the gear change system engine ecu and relays so its all easily accesable
the cars been great all summer but with 4th gear giveing up i decided to go for an engine change been through a number of engines and choices but finally this came up for sale at a VERY good price! its a 2008 r1 lump.
Originally built by race techniques for jentin racing for simon andrews to compete the brands wsb 08 round, however it was never run and steve ran it in last years tt where it made 200+bhp at the back wheel. It was then refreashed and rebuilt at bob farnhams which is when i bought it.
basic spec-
fully worked head with resign filled lower to aid gas flow
Cosworth spec kent cams
Yec valves
Yec piston rings
Cosworth cams
Arrow titanium rods and bolts
Kit generator
Yec gearbox
STM slipper clutch
Yec spark plugs
Full Yec gasket set
as most of you will know tuning parts for bikes are so expensive ie 1k for pistons 1k for cams and 1k for rods it was a no brainer buyuing this!

now the throttle bodys are a bit special haveing 2 sets of trumpets one above the other moveing up and down on a motor to widen the powerband and provide more torque through the rev range. only problem is theyre meant to be used with flyby wire so i have remover the motor in the middle and adapted the end so i can use a conventional throttle cable.
