Default Ford Orion Restoration

Hi All, I have just joined the forum as I have heard good things about it
I am also a member of Fordfreaks.co.uk

I am currently trying to restore a 1989 Ford Orion Ghia that I purchased earlier this year as it has failed its MOT. There are a number of small jobs to do with the electrics etc but the main job is to repair the floor pan (rust and holes), one sill, front crossmember (repair or replace) and wheel bearing.... I will be asking for help and advice as I am new to restoring older Fords

Below you will find the car in its current state - paintwork is concours condition, all body panels are mint and free from rust, engine is a mint XR3i unit from a H reg with low miles on it, full stainless steel exhaust system inc uprated manifold, leads etc, has drilled and grov larger front disks.....alloys will be replaced with some others when I decide what to go for.

I will update as I go along - first stage will be to find someone who can weld as I cant lol as I am looking to purchase new floor sections to replace the current ones that have holes in. Once floor repaired I will seal it. Then move on to the next stage.....

All comments and advice welcome.
Look forward to meeting with some of you at the up and coming Ford events

Thanks - it is a one off I had it up for sale a few weeks ago as I lost heart in it but now done a U turn lol... hope I can fix rust etc to get it back on road. Ideally I would like it ready for Fordfair but I have a feeling it wont be - so might have to aim for next years show

Bikes are cool - what made you change your mind and return to the blue oval? What Ford do you own and is it a project?

As above make it more ERST looking, lose the lairy bumpers and puma wheels for an rst set and a set of escort cosworth alloys it'll bring it bang upto date.

Remind me of my first car on the road when i was 17. Same colour etc. Mods arent to my liking but horses for courses. If it were mine it either keep the front bumper and find an rs accesory rear bumper or get 90 spec rs front and rears colour coded. saph cossie rear spoiler like i had on mine. Maybe light smoke window tint done properly and some nice 17's. escos wheels look good but dont drive nice in opinion. I always loved my 16i ghia

I have some 17" Migla milia's which are anthracite with a silver lip - might offer them up to see what they look like. Car is mega low so might need to roll arch's or replace suspension setup. There are not many Orion's around which is why I want to get this one back on the road.

I was advised of that earlier and have told the forum admin. It's been fixed now I believe so you should be able to join up now without a problem

caught in two minds regarding the spoiler - sometimes i think it looks good and fits in with the lines of the car and then other times I think it might look better without lol

Rear bumper could do with being replaced with a std one as it dosnt quite fit correctly.

The spoiler isn't for me to be honest. BUT, I think the rear bumper is worse. I'd try and get a rear bumper with the RS skirt to tie in with the front end

I do want to get a rear bumper with the RS skirt as it would defo make the car look right - never been too keen on the illusion/cossy body kits for the orion or escort RS....
