Default project single speed (bike)

well ive been into bike for ages, ever since i can remeber infact, although ive done bits to them ive never done it al in one go and done it all myself. so here goes my first time...........

the first issue is what to get, ive got 3 bmx's, a dirt jumper, use of a really good road bike and a mtb, so i decided old skool was the way to go and get an old racer. set my self a £35 budget for the bike and ebay was contstantly on until i found the one i wanted, 2 weeks and £26 later and i owned a raleigh pursuit. late 80's early 90's as far as i can tell.....

day 1.

i went to pick it up, not really sure on what id bought as the ad wasnt too clear and from what it said the bloke had no idea, great.

well heres what i got...

the bloke whod got it couldnt get the back wheel on as the chain was looped, well 2 mins and very oily clothes soon had it on and i was up and down the street seeing how it rode, pretty well considering.

i put it in the garage and thought ill start to tomorrow....yeah right, a cup of tea and i was out there ripping stuff off.

front and rear mudguard, reflectors, light, back brake and front drailer with shifter - off.

up in the stand being worked on, dad in shot.

rear drailer kept on for now to decide on the right gear to use,

bit of polishing on the bars.

yep, they are my feet, no there not as small as they look

the big cog at the front was always going to be used so 2nd gear was decided as the perfect gear on the back, works out the same ratio as a bmx so we'll see how it works out

you just have to have a cuppa while your working.....

starting to look pretty good me thinks......

the little helper.....

the parts ive took off, the box just keeps getting fuller

new bits for it - innertubes, tyres, brake pads and a puncture repair kit, just incase

not bad for 3 days work imo. still need to upload the rest of the photos, shouldnt be too long

nice little project mate, looks really simple and easy to work on too.

i used to be into mountain biking and even had a part time job at halfords working bike hut, i think the trickiest thing was fitting a chain and the hardest jobs were rear cassets and bottom brackets depending on how siezed they were but usually sorted with the correct tool and a HUGE breaker bar...with extension

what are you planning for it? strip down, paint, rebuild with new bearings?
