what do you think about costs a fully restored 4x4 cosworth standard? vrs a very clean modified 4x4 cosworth?

Do you get your money back if you fully restore them?

Probably not. Unless your doing all the work yourself and have access to all the tools and materials your probably still gonna sink 10's of thousands into buying the car restoring one back to mint condition.

They are just not quite rare or valuable enough yet.

Restoring my 2wd saff stood my Ł4800. It still needs some small bits of paint. That was buying a good rolling shell, acquiring the engine and full bottom end and top end rebuild. All the new underside parts etc and interior (new headling etc). But thats with me doing 80% of the work myself with some help from mates etc. I think had I been paying the labour costs for someone to do the work, you could probably nearly double that figure.

If doing the work yourself, the value of the car will be in the region of what you spend, maybe a little more. Id be looking for Ł5500-Ł6000 for mine as it stands.

the 3dr sierras and early escorts are probably a better option for restorations, if your looking at it from an investment point of view.

as said investment wise id say three door or escorts 1-3

you never get bk what you put into it money wise , but genrally its not about the money imo , you ask anyone whos done it


like its been said its all about what you want from the car , a clean toy or a long term investment


if you could restore it to standard and then not use the car for 5-7 year you may get bk a good return ,


its also worth noting , that whilst 2wd saffs are classed as the cheapest route to cos ownership , this also works in your favour as folk who cant afford to run them properly can but them , run them into the ground and then there beyond repair , or economic value and end up getting broken for parts ,


which means there value will start to climb

Exactly my thinking when i bought my 2wd.

I had 5k to spend on one, so my two options were to buy a complete one, and run the risk of it been full of rot etc, or buy a shell and spend upto 5k building one.

I opted for the second option, not as an investment, more so i knew what the car was like once i had finished. It was bloody hard work and stressful at times, but at least now I know its a good solid car.

and like beef says, the more that get broken the less there are on the road, and the value of them will eventually go up.
