85 S1 rebuild/reshell
this is my S1
i swapped my MK4 xr3i escort for it along with a 3i shell in good nick.
just thought id updates yis on the progress.
before anyone points out, it will always be an xr3, and have no resale value,
i dont mind, i have no plans on selling it on. and at the end of the day il know i have a good car.
The shell was completely Fecked, front panel, rear panel, sills, floor.chassis legs ect ect ect. was to far gone to save
even when i jacked her up the chassy legs came up trought the floor, lol.
so iv been busy re shelling her.
as i got her
I quite like this pic, pity it looks so bad lol:
Stripping her down
this is the the 3i im using:
only work it needs is outer sill and some patching to the inner wing.
new sills and patching done drivers side:
that was the start of last week. should be welded by now, and have primer on,
il be getting that back from painter/welders next weekend.
While the shell was away, i kelp myself busy with other bits that need sorting.
The engine all cleaned up.
was running fine, will just put it in for now, and maybe rebuild/up the power at a later date.
Then i moved on to the seats.
before, so dirty you couldn't make out the diff coler from the center and the edge.
I tuck all the fabric off, and ran em through a 40C wash, and the results are amazing.
my mum repaired some of the drivers seat were the seam had riped. and re-glued the bolster back together, you'd never know they' were worn now
il let the pic talk.
the back seat were spotless to start, and need no work:
well, that as far is iv got to date,
Should all going well have her built up and complete before the new year.
Since these pics were taken,
the other side has been welded, and she is in primer.
cant get over to see her, as were snowed in atm.
car should be fully painted by the weekend.
and weather permitting, should have her back early next week.
Il up date the thread as the works gets done...

If the job's done right and you're happy with the car who cares what the ID says? I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, looks tasty!
I'd be well happy with a swap like that! Will still be worth a fair bit when it's done compared to a MK4 anyway!

small update,
The car is still with that painter, Don't want to Rush him really.
but i got on with Refurbishing my wheels.
there Diamond Cut, and all the lacquer is peeling.
So just said id do em standard silver.
1 hour of sanding later
Bit if etch primer
And from research, the closet matching color, Ford Stratos Silver.
And Finally Lacquer done.
and center stuck back in, the RS badge is only sitting there for effect,
have new ones orders of the Bay
I'm reasonably happy with them, not 100%, but good enough for now.
during the summer il prob try get a set of 17 RS7's os soft lines.

A m8 of mine in Bree Co wexford.
welding and painting. and a good price too.
he works out of his back garden, but has all the iright gear, oven the works...
but the work is flawless. love it.
got a good bit done this afternoon.
most of the exterior is finished, just the boot door to do.
Tomorrow, Il get the wiring loom in, and start fitting out the bay, and get her running before i fit the interior
painted the arches, one or two more coats to go

Excellent work - looking like a real car again - great to see another car being saved and working on a real budget too. One thing tho - whoever strapped that rear quarter/ arch down on fresh paint should be shot!

also got the brakes connected back up, and cleaned up
got all the wiring in and finished.
ecus and all the wire out ready for boot Door

Got a good bit done today.
engine in, with some help from my dad.
need a bit of Fuel line and some gear box oil.
and tidy up a few bits, should have her running tomorrow by lunch
and hopefully start putting the interior in then...
was the most nerve racking thing yet, hoisting the engine in, the thoughts of the
engine hitting any of the bay or slam panel. had every thing covers with sheets
just in case she slipped either way
Broke the windscreen putting it in, but rang insurance, getting a new one on Thursday, and the glass place is fitting it.
going to get them to fit the rear one to, as it cant be replaced.
(Bronze tint rear cant be got handy in ireland)

got the inside finished today,
Just a few silly bits to do
also waiting for the boot lid and windscreen to be done, should be next Thursday.
toying with the idea, of having the Ford radio work, and run the center speaker,
and building my main head unit into the pocket on the right, running all the main speakers and that. would be built in better then it is,
just stuck in there for testing.
