Nice to see someone build a car for them and their needs. Not just to tick off items on the intenet "cool" list.
Martin , How do you intend fixing the plastic wheel arches on now you have rolled the metal ones, as the plastic attaches to them?
I've 18's on mine and am looking for ideas to help clearance.

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
Astonishing work Martin, nice to see so much work involved in one car!
When doing a XR2 for a local guy, I've rolled the arches so much that the plastic ones would just get glued right on and secured them with a few sunken rivets. it needs a paint job after that though...

Looking really good, I like the neat wee touches incorporated at the shell stage like the aircon bulkhead, telling of a commitment to the car and a knowledge of the marque beyond most. As said above also really nice to see 'different' reasons for choices in a project, the desire to build a comfortable grand tourer!

Its good to see that most seem to understand what my objective is with this car
For those that haven't read the other thread that objective is to end up with a car thats quiet and not harsh in any way... paddle clutches, uprated engine mounts, aftermarket gear kits etc etc all generally add some sort of noise or harshness be it big or small amounts, I want to avoid that at all costs! One area that will add some harshness is my tyre choice but I like the look of the wheels and will have to just drive it on smooth roads!!!!

No, much simpler... It ended up there because the car now has a late spec Sapphire 4x4 car loom. Ecu's are located in better places and other features made me swap it, plus the loom I fitted is almost brand new as its been stored since it was one year old.

Lovin the pics of the three of the cars together! Have you enquired about putting it back on its original plate yet. Just wondering because of the sentimental value and the fact the DVLA sometimes just issue a year related plate. Or you got something else in mind anyways?

[QUOTE=Martin-Reyland;5186507]Spent a bit of time Saturday fitting the doors up and also fitted the electric sunroof which works great
Just fitted the rear brakes, for now I've replaced the std 20mm thick discs with some 300x22mm jobbies ...
Are they std calipers Martin???

Bit of an update...
Using these discs as I got them at a decent price
They were probably cheap because they use an expensive floating mechanism which means they have 11mm mounting holes, I didnt want them floating or to be using huge fasteners so had my engineering shop make me up some bobbins on their cnc machine..
That sorted I could then use AP 1/4" fixings
Front suspension bits waiting to go on..
Engine and box tempararily fitted to mod exhaust down pipe and sort air con pipes..
Engine will have to come back out as Ive gone for a bit of a spec change

Looks lovely this.
Nice to see someone building one with a bit of luxury in it. So many people are going down the route of stripping everything out these days, so it makes a nice change.
Seems to be going a similar way as my project car; still having good performance, but trying to keep it quiet and comfortable enough so it's still nice to drive on the road
