i havent heard of any gearbox tunnel mods needing before as long as your going standard cosworth t5, bodykit will go straight on, i know that for certain as ive got the bodykit on my replica cosworth with no problems, only thing i think might be slightly different is the need to fit a rs500 rear anti roll bar which a standard 3 door doesnt have, other then that engine should bolt in fine, not sure if you will need a cosworth crossmember but probably best fit one anyway and it will fit

lol maybe the 35k price tag they carry for a decent one nowadays, most people would rather spend that sort of money on a deposit for a house, building cars from scratch is alot more epreciative, cheaper and rewarding, plus it drives the same if not better and looks the same because its been fully rebuilt lol only difference is a vin number and log book

its possible but its a bit of work, you would need the cut out from a 3 door with the 1 peice window to weld in if you was going to do it properly or fab your own metal work

The gearbox tunnel in my 1.6 shell was too narrow to accommodate a T5 box, therefore a cossie one was welded in.
Maybe some 1.6 shells had wider gearbox tunnels ???

hmmm i dont know for certain but ive asked people on ebay and other places before and have been told t5 fits perfect with no mods, only mod i know of that you need for a 3 door is when fitting the 4x4 box, ill be fitting a t5 in my 3 door soon so i hope its not narrower, ive even been told the t5 mounted to a v8 fits fine with no mods to the shell in a 3 door, ill have to do some research and find out for certain

Strange eh ??
Good luck with your conversion and I hope the T5 slips into your shell without any problems.

If you want it to be BANG on then the bulkhead is different (hole's missing for ABS loom etc)
front towing eye on cross member and i am pretty sure the door latches/that area on the shell were different on cossie

And if you still dont think im right then click on the link and its a RS500 that is being rebilt . Im not having a go but there are lads on here that see one hole in the shell and are very qwick to say its not a Cosworth shell

Fair enough never knew that, but if you were looking at a shell and the rest of the bits I have mentioned weren't right than then that would be enough to tell you that it wasn't a genuine shell if you were looking for one

RE the latches IIRC the base model sierras had a single pole set up rather than an anti burst catch held on with 2 screws as per the cossie shells.
p.s dont forget to get the numbers stamped the right way

yup your probably right i spent 2k on all genuine bodykit parts alone, then the car was £800 and a few other bits and bobs im at around 4k atm and i dont even have a cosworth bonnet yet nor do i have any of the running gear, and rs500 parts cost a hell of alot more, but i cant get the insurance on a genuine cosworth, if you dont have experience/time for doing what every one on here in the projects section makes look easy (restoring a cosworth from scratch) then id say just buy the most decent cosworth you can find and then look at rs500 parts if you have the money keeping in mind a genuine rs500 bumper alone will cost you around £800-1000+ depending on condition

Yep mines a 3 door rep !!
The previous owner gave up on this project. The shell came complete with all cossie gear, it just needed an engine, box and engine loom. (had these laying around in the garage gathering dust).
It also came complete with an original RS500 front bumper and splitter, the previous owner though it was a fibreglass copy

mate at the end of the day it will all fit but there are 2. things the price that its going to cost you to get a motor / gear box and all the rest of the stuff and are you any good at working on cars as there is a lot of work . like sorting the loom out as the loom in a 1.6 will be going in the bin and so on . the cheapest way to do this job is get a rotten saff cosworth and swop all the stuff over
