I need mk 1 escort some help, please.
Hi,
I owned a mk1 Escort years ago and loved it, I decided to buy one to and get it on the road.
Someone has sort of started putting a pinto& type 9 into her, she got to me with 2 bolts holding the engine and gearbox in. Bit of a mess really.
What i have decided to do firstly is get it all mounted in properly, but have come across a problem. The hole that the previous owner has hacked ( with a spoon) in the floor where the gear lever sits means the gearlever hits the handbrake, 2nd or 4th are un-selectable. Does this mean the wrong mounts have been used? the cylinder head is only just off the bulkhead.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I will post some pictures of this later today.
Thanks, Matt

Wrong mounts id say!!!, get urself some propper rs2000 mounts, 5speed type 9 boxes do have the gearstick in the same location as RS, But 2" back on standard shells....
also is the gearstick straight, if not straightern it......
hope this helps

if it is not a rs shell then you will have to cut & move the gear stick holeif you use the proper rs2000 engine mounts & gearbox x member it will be al right there is steel spacers that go between the x member & shell to drop it by approx 20-25mm ,i would also fit a quick shift which will shorten the gear stick movement this will also help good luck with your resto
