ive come to a time in the resto that iv a problem with the roof on my s2 rst under the head lineing at the back of the roof it appears that tthe roof starting to rot and also around the sunroof so heres the dilemma

1 iv got a spare full roof so thats a plus but i need to know where to cut the one on the car so it will match up perfect i know if i balls this up the cars doomed so im after very tecnical advise heres as to where to cut tack ,strenght bars, in before i cut ,ect ect

i know this is a very hard job to pull of but eh if ya gonna do it do it wright im 65 % sure im doing the right thing but just need some advise of the welding wiserds on here at pf
if anyone has a pics or a how do for this i wouldf be very greatfull cheers tripod

How bad is it ? can you just cut out the rot and weld in a repair panel? I know my brother welded the roof on a erst for a lad a few years ago

IIRC the best way to do it is drill out the spot welds in the roof gutters and then along the top of the front and rear screen should then be able to remove it. Might be worth asking the twins as they have changed a few.

My mate dave did one a few years back, drilled out down the gutters and unpicked it ,and along the screen aperture

its an easyish type of job but you need to take your time to do a decent job
using a spot welder on the new roof makes it soo much easier

Cheers for the replys lads , I'm thinking I need a step by step approch to this would anyone care to tell me how to do the job step by step as a guide getting me down now need to crack on with it before I lose all heart in the car once again cheers to the lads who replyed

get the replacement roof in carbon fibre,thats what i was gonna do,before i lost the heart and decided to give up

if your not any good with body work either get some one to replace the roof for you or fit a Webasto landia 400 - Folding Fabric Sunroof

you can have the sunroof tray taken out, a roof hole cut taking out the common rust with it and a fabric sunroof put in (like the ones on the old minis).

job done.
